Just got this Creach back together and it is blowing Fuse 114. I've seen a couple of light issues that I thought was the culprit but it is still there lerking. Most recently it started to act like it was going to blow the fuse, kind of did a partial reset with lights going out for a second. During that couple second reset I could hear a very faint click click click click. I'm not great at diagnosing but my gut is wondering if BR1 could be occasionally shorting out. Any help much appreciated. Charlie

Yes, it could be BR1. But if you just put the game back together I would lean to something like a shorted lamp socket.

Maybe unplug the connectors going out to the playfield that might have a short. J133, J135, J137 would be my first guesses. If the fuse does not blow start looking for a controlled lamp socket short.

Edit: Did you do any modes to the board like beefing up the cap ground or anything?

You may not be great, but you've developed a sound theory that would be my first guess too.

Edit: I agree with Taxman...posted above. If that test passes, then...

Pull the board.
Get out your meter.
Test the bridge.
See: http://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=General#Bridge_Rectifier_Testing_Procedure

There is no such thing as an occasional short in a bridge. It's either shorted, or not shorted.

Report back please.

Thanks, it has played now for a total of about 2 hours without blowing a fuse. There is still an issue with the paid lights being on almost all the time. I'm guessing bad socket or logic chip issue.

No, I haven't done anything to the board yet.

That fact would be consistent with Taxman's suggestion...something causes a period short.

Any other lamps locked on, like the other four lamps in column 1; the three jet bumpers and the "admit one" insert?
If so, the column has an issue.

Yep, c. As Chris above and I told you earlier, check column first.

Thank you all for helping me jump start my little pea brain. My best guess is that the admit 1 lamp socket was bent back just enough to make contact on the metal back vent screen which shorted out Q98. A special thanks to Perry at Pookie's Pinballs for hooking me up with a new transistor. The only help I can be to those paranoid types out there like me who don't trust their soldering is that the new transistor checked out a little differently when comparing it to the others in regards to the middle leg and tab. I guessed that it was good after running some continuity checks and it looks like my luck has swung back to the good and lights are all working correctly.

Glad you sorted it out.

Always glad to help out good folks any way I can. You already knew the solution to the issue since you discovered how it was shorted to begin with.
