Very Nice ! are you applying a clear coat between each color
to avoid peeling off the paint when removing the stencils ?
Quoted from dmbjunky:Did the original have fading on the letters? It makes it almost look metallic. Awesome.
No fade on the letters in the original.
Thanks for all the encouragement on this.
It is tough to imagine it well enough so doing it and hoping it goes like you thought it would is the only real option.
I have it mocked up a little now and am deciding if this is it or not.
I put the final matte style clear on it so I would know exactly where I am at and would not feel obligated to do more unless I really feel it is beneficial.

Quoted from Zitt:Why not do the shield-background under the skull on the BackBox in the mid-grey like the face's background?
I think that'd add balance between the BB and Cab.
Yes I think some shading in the backbox would pull the two together a little more and I actually cut out that very area but the problem with it was as the way the spokes border and the hair trails down.
I just can't find good breaking points.
What I am considering is shading parts of the skull which is why I already put the red in there.
The risk is overdoing it though because what it looks like now verses what it looks like assembled with all the black trim breaking it up might be good enough.
Admiring your work Chris, and envious of the new owner. The finished product is going to be strikingly gorgeous.
Thanks for taking the time sharing your progress. Your work is awesome I bet you get more requests for Centaurs like this or similar. Any special plans for the apron, flippers, legs etcetera?
It would be cool... Let see what HEP/op has in store; I'm guessing he may add some accents to the PF before he clears it anyway.
Quoted from dothedoo:CPR should do a Silver Edition playfield for this.....all white replaced with silver.
I was thinking the same thing when I first saw HEP's work on this. Great minds think alike.
I decided to leave well enough alone on the cabinet after checking it outside.
The risk of breaking through the fade is too great to justify sanding it down again and I don't think it would get much better than this honestly.
The clear is just the right sheen and there are no real imperfections so I am going with this scheme.
Any chance the owner wants to put all glossy black, like black nickel, armor on this machine? I think that would go well with the new color scheme.

Yes I am going with gloss black most likely. Have stuff in that process and will test fit it first but that was the initial plan I had when I decided to go this route.
I am going to manually refinish much of the trim hardware though because powder coat tends to clog it up especially things like hinges.
Gloss black will perfectly balance the black backbox frame, and nicely anchor the lower cabinet which currently looks a bit sparse. The lighter, inverted color scheme is begging for dark hardware. It's gonna look awesome.
Quoted from Captive_Ball:Black gloss finish on hardware will look fantastic....glad you were already going that direction.
I hope so I am committed now
Chris, did you use automotive paint and clear for the coin door parts, they look great? The owner of this machine should be elated with it, custom all the way. Nice work as always.

Rock 'n Roll!

Thanks Mike
These are metal etched then shot in a automotive single stage.
Reason being that the single stage process is lower build and less fragile for these types of applications than base clear but not anywhere as thick as powder coating.

OK. Screw the game. NOW you have my attention!!
The more I look at it the better it looks. Well played sir.
I hope you do the coin door skin and bezel in black as well, that would be sweet.
