If I remember correctly I had a similar issue, I believe you have use the nylock nuts to adjust the ends of the wire rails. Also I had an issue with the wire rails popping out of the brackets from time to time and the ball would get pinched and slow down before it got to the playfield.
Here are some pictures I took before I took the whole assembly apart if its any help.
