Quoted from jonnyo:Bowen Kerins runs it. It's a standard unlimited qualifying entry format. Last year there was a modern and classics division with (I think) five games per bank.
You want to have a good enough score to qualify by the end of the qualifying period, which is around noon on Sunday. You can purchase as many entries as you like to do so. CAX tends to be very competitive so it can take a lot of work to qualify.
For novice players, which for CAX is defined as "never won a cash prize in a pinball tournament", you play both banks and there is a novice-only finals. If you place high enough, however, you play in the Open finals. I won novice in 2010. I got a t shirt, $150 and a big trophy. I spent about $90 in qualifying.
Cool, thanks. I finish grad school next week and will have much more time, so I'm going to try to start making some Vitus events as well.
Quoted from TG:Spent 10 hours setting up for the show yesterday. It's lookin good folks! Looks like we're getting more ballroom space, so hopefully no turning away games this year. Lots of duplicate pins so far: 4 Firepowers, 3 CFTBLs, 2 Champion Pubs next to 2 CVs, 2 MMs, at least 2 AFMs. Both MM and AFM will have a ColorDMD running in them. There's a cool Gottlieb lineup of many pins I've never seen in person before. A Blackwater 100, which is a wild looking setup, very cool. Capcom Kingpin and BBB are there. Many prototype vids too. Gonna be a great show. Hope a lot of you can make it.
FYI, spoke to Gene Cunningham last night, and he's still trying to get the KPs remade. So, the project is not dead as of yet.
