Our little Black Kitty adores watching nature specials, football, and golf. She runs into the Living room whenever we put football or golf on, jumps on the entertainment center, and follows the ball in both those games. We tape PBS “Nature” for her, and she really likes the episodes with birds, big cats, or hippos. The Puma episode is basically on a loop for her. We watch Jeopardy most evenings. It’s fairly common she’ll wander in during the final Jeopardy theme music, and sit down and ask us to put on a Nature episode. Don’t tell me cats aren’t super-smart.

Ollie is just the sweetest, most affectionate kitty. Such a goofball, too.

What a beautiful little kitty! I was never a cat person until I married my wife 10 years ago. We fostered two wonderful little tabbys in 2017, and I’ve been smitten ever since. We’re failed foster parents, thank goodness. I get it, now. Our little Charolette looks a lot like October. Such sweethearts.

Our adorable 5-year-old kitty Charlotte. It's so hard to get good pics of the black kitties; this is her at the morning window. Such a sweetheart.

Tree calibration on a Jurassic Park. This is a delicate and exacting process, and I brought in an expert (Ollie) to make sure the tree calibration was done correctly.

My favorite Pinside thread. It's been a while since I posted up some Ollie pictures. He's just the sweetest little rescue Tabby in the world. Is my constant companion, whether doing pinball or hobbies.

This is how far I've dropped off the Pinball deepend. In your photo, I'm thinking, "I wonder what the Lowe's Premium and LE stools look like...".

Ollie loves to remodel any new box, while our dear little Charolette takes a break. Two of the sweetest little kitties, ever, now 7 years old.

And please forgive my repost of this video. Ollie is a great pinball tech as well. Tree-calibration on Jurassic Park. It's a very delicate process.

A minor miracle all 3 are at the base. My kitties treat any Xmas tree as the world's most awesome cat toy. Can't keep them out of the damn thing, usually at the top.

Our poor little baby kitty Charlotte had a very bad accident involving an electric recliner. She was hiding inside, and her tail go caught in the ball screw. She was trapped for about 30 minutes while we worked to get her free. My sister (Trauma PA) was with us, and did some emergency stitches and repair, and we saw the vet the next day they were open.

It's been 3 weeks, and her tail is not healing, unfortunately. She has to have the portion below the wound amputated on Monday. She's otherwise doing pretty well, though another 10-14 days in the cone will be more misery. Over a month recovering from this now! We're 100% at fault. We had identified these recliners as a hazard, and thought being careful in their use would work. We've since unplugged them, never to be used again. I feel so bad for our little girl, but she'll be just fine with half a tail.

Quoted from mbwalker:

Sorry to hear about your kitty and the recliner. That's also a worry of mine.
You can buy a 'soft' cone, she might tolerate that a bit better if needed. A random screen shot from Amazon:
[quoted image]

Thank you for both the support and thoughtful idea, so very much. What a great community, with others chipping in with wonderful suggestions.

We've tried about a half-dozen cones on our little girl, and nothing kept her from messing with her tail. We ended up with the contraption shown above (clear cone backed up by a donut). It's the only thing we've found that works, unfortunately. This is apparently common with cats and tail injuries, for the obvious reason that can still reach it mostly.

We had her on painkillers for 3 weeks, and those just ended. This makes her sleepy and it really helps with her pain; she doesn't bother her tail at all while on those. She'll get another 2-week prescription on Monday with the surgery. The most upsetting thing has been the very-long recovery process and need to keep her in that damn cone. At least we have an end-date now.

Our sweetheart Charlotte is back from her tail surgery. Her half-tail looks so much better now. Now to heal up and put this whole awful mess behind her.
