Is that a Maine Coone? Beautiful cat..

Karolina showing her fluffy butt heading on top of the subs under the machines. I should dust but her fur may have taken care of it.

She just turned 13 in May.

Yup, mother and son. Odin is in the box, and his mom Bestla is on the back of the couch.

Quoted from pinwiztom:

We have several suspects out of our nine cats,
we know it is not the dog, since he is not able to get onto the bed, anymore.
Possibly our oldest cat Jack (17 yrs old), since he has been known to pee outside the box on occasion,
as well as Wednesday (aka Lil Bit) (4yrs old) who has been known to pee outside the box
or maybe Ouija (5yr), who regularly poos outside the box, but up til now, not known to pee outside the box.

Damn cats!!!

I think we found the culprit that pissed in our bed last week.
Mom caught Ouija red-handed peeing in her brother's, Dewey, dog bed.
There has been a spat of peeing outside the box lately;
previously we have suspected Jack and/or Wednesday (Lil Bit)
But now the cat that regularly poos outside the box may be the recent offender in peeing outside the box
or on rugs or beds.
Mom was so pissed, she ended uptaking Ouija, putting her nose in the pee,
then throwing her outside on our back deck for about 5 minutes, ( our deck in fully surrounded with 3 ft high railing and gates.)
Mind you all our cats are inside only cats . Ouija cried for a few minutes, then mom relented and let her back in the house,
but Ouija is going to be walking on thin ice from now on.
We have plenty of litter boxes on every level of the house
(8 in total and all are super jumbo size and cleaned 2to3 times a day).
Pooing outside the box we can handle as it is fairly easy clean up, but peeing can wreck havok, especially if not found right away.
And it is a bad influence on the other cats.
Can not think of anything to explain this sudden change in bathroom behavior.

what to do, what to do.

Some may think it cruel to post cat shaming photos, but here goes anyway.

I suspect a urinary tract infection when my critters start having accidents in the house.

Exactly, if a cat isn't using it's litter box there is a reason. When it happened with one of mine it turned out to be cancer.

Yeah.... you might want to take that cat to the vet. And rubbing their nose in it only works on children.

Sickness is often the reason for bathroom changes, either that cat or another cat being sick, and the box does not smell right to the cat that is the offender if it is another cat that is sick. The other possibility is the cat is not happy with the box being cleaned often enough.
Most likely the cat that is peeing out of bounds is having health issues.

Having between 8 and 10 indoor cats for the past 25 years sometimes it's territorial , or an alpha male picking on a female. We have a Bengal that someone dropped off at our house was stray and we took her in.She is a very dominant female, she stays and pees on the lanai ,we know why someone dropped her off.Not covering crap or outside the box is telling other cat that they are around

Late to this party, but yes, I agree 100% with a few previous posts. Many times, urinating outside of the box is a telltale sign of urinary track/bladder issues. You should have a vet check out the offender asap. I've run into this exact issue 2x in my life with cats. Once was a bladder stone and UTI, second time was early stages of kidney failure.

Will let the wife make the decision to take cat to vet, (her cats) but i will advise to do so.
Problem is that there are several likely suspects, will need to install some surveillance cameras to see if we can catch culprit(s) in the act.
Lately seeing some pee just next to litter box, (fortunately onto piddle pad or litter catch grate mat.)

At least while outside the box, makes clean up easy.

My wife Carol took this photo of Sprout with Wally. I must confess that I did not know who Wally was. For some unknown reason my wife, who was born and raised here in St. Louis, is a a rabid New England sports fan.

Due to our cats shedding bucket loads of hair&fur (dust bunnies everywhere)
and the fear of the cats dirtying (puking or peeing on) her very expensive Shabby Chic white sofa,
my wife has opted to remove the couch from the living room and put it into storage,
(wrapped in plastic and stretch-wrapped).
We hardly ever used the sofa in living room anyway, as it was always covered in multiple bed spreads and such
in attempt to protect the couch's upholstery.
Cats were the only ones using the couch in the living room, (thankfully they have yet to pee on the sofa).

And now, at her suggestion, she will allow me to bring up some pinball machines
to set up in the living room.
I should be able to get 4 machines in there easily and possibly six or seven,
if we close one set of the french doors separating the living room from the foyer entrance.
Actually there is basically nothing in the living room now except for the fireplace and an upright piano and a floor lamp.
Some limiting factors in placement is the limited qty and location of electrical outlets.

Now the dilemma will be, as to which games to choose to set up in living room.
I might get Team One and Dimension out of storage
and bring down my 1960 WMS Jungle and Eye of the Tiger from upstairs
plus bring up a couple from the basement gameroom.
I may bring up my wife's Elvira (EATPM) or Scared Stiff upstairs.

I don't understand why YeOldPinPlayer would downvote you asking about it yesterday.....

One or two bad apples spoil it for all the others.

Another cat peed on the bed again,
fortunately we had the water proof mattress pad in place.
But this will be the last straw for the wife.
No cats allowed in the bedroom anymore,
door closed at all times from now on, even when sleeping.
This will be hard on my wife and the cats
as most all the cats spend time on the bed at various time throughout the nite.
But in long run it will be for the best, as it will keep our bed cleaner,
no longer having to lint roller the sheets for hair and litter.

Actually the wife and I slept very good last night, without any cats,
And surprizingly there was no or little scratching at the door wanting to get in.
They have over 3000 sqft of house to explore and 5 cat trees and tons of other resting spots to find sleeping spots.
But I think you are right that my wife may give in within a few weeks.
Nine cats is too many, especially when we are not getting any younger.
But I tried to tell that to my wife about 5 cats ago.
I think she finally has come to realize that.
We still love all out cats, even the ones with issues.

It was too good to be true.
Turns out I mis-understood my wife,
her intent was that during our basement remodel (we are putting in new flooring)
we have to move all furniture and machines from the basement to allow installer
access to install the Marmoleum flooring, (may take up to one week to install).
She was just suggesting to move pins upstairs to living room on a temporary basis,
then move them back to basement after floor install is complete.
She did state that i should set up the games in full to be able to play them,
but if its for such a short time why bother, to only have to break them all down again.

wishful thinking on my part, i guess.

So if you set them all up and they are working upstairs can’t you just get more to back fill in the basement since it will be empty?
