No such thing as a cat free zone...just cat zones, and zones in which a cat has decided not to visit yet.

Here's some more silverpaw mania!

The 40 credits picture reminds me of playing Silverball/paw Mania at Arcade Amusements in Manitou Springs, CO. The rather young employees would patrol the area and erase free credits on the machine, which annoyed me, so I put up a string of multi-million score games on SM and left 40 credits on the machine. Took three games to do this. It took the employee several minutes to start four games, turn the game off and back and, and continue erasing the credits manually. I rather enjoyed that. (I think I still have the top Pinside score for SM.)

Every time I try to cut stencils on my Cameo, this happens.
I keep telling her it is not a toy but she never listens so I have to close her up in the bedroom until my cutting is done. Poor kitty.

I know there isn't a pinball machine involved, but I thought everyone might like this picture. There is a vase thing sitting behind Violet just out of view.

Makes her look like disco ball cat.

What type/size of litter box do you use for your cats?
I have switched over to IKEA Samla 15gal size plastic bin (30x22x7in)
Reason being is that its bottom is perfectly flat/smooth
as there is no ridges or grooves in the bottom, making it easy to scoop out
the cat pees and not having the clay litter harden and accumulate
in the grooves that one has to dig out later.
It is also of a good larger size, especially since we have multiple cats.
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00130129/

I also use Costco's Litter Purrfect cat litter, cause it is a good price per pound (<$9/35#)
and its good at clumping and odor reduction, just wish it would be more dust free.
Anyone found a better economical litter.

My #1 job around the house is cleaning the boxes at least 4 to 5 times a day,
We have 6 cats and six boxes thruout the house.
When i take the trash container out to the curb each week,
easily 1/3 the volume and >50% of the weight is due to used cat litter.

#1209 3 years ago

We use the same Costco litter. It's dusty (compared to Dr. Elsie's litter) but it clumps better and doesn't get tracked around as much. Thanks for the tip, we will have to check those out next time we go to Ikea!

EDIT:. Holy smokes, do you really have 311 machines?

Haha. What's in the box? A cat!

#1211 3 years ago

6 boxes with 6 cats? Geez, I have 6 boxes for two! LOL But that includes one in the garage and one on the back screened in porch. I doubt there is such a thing as dust free litter because it compacts and breaks down during shipping. As for the poop, we use "Cat Genies." Like a diaper genie for cat waste. The plastic refill sleeves are ridiculously expensive so I figured out how to use a rubber band and plastic baggies from Wally-World that go for a couple of bucks for a roll of 100. Makes clean up a breeze and I just change out the bags once a week.

I have tried many different clumping litters and the best have carbon in them.
This is the clumping litter that I have found to have the lowest dust and great odor control without obnoxious scents (unscented):
https://www.chewy.com/dr-elseys-precious-cat-ultra-clumping/dp/32363

It was just over $10 on chewy.com with free shipping on $50 purchase about two weeks ago, no tax. Petsmart will match chewy.com prices.

The Nature's Miracle litter boxes are nice and deep and have no ridges. They have a couple different shapes available:
https://www.chewy.com/natures-miracle-just-cats-advanced/dp/47581
https://www.chewy.com/natures-miracle-just-cats-advanced/dp/51664

Also, a key to easy scooping is to keep the litter over two inches deep. I probably have mine at about 4 inches.

Another tidbit, if your cats get pissed at each other spray some of this calming spray in their direction without spraying them directly. It really seems to shut them down:

I use Costco kitchen bags in my cat waste genie and it works great. I can use a bag for about 5 days (2 cats) and then throw it away and install another bag for less than 10 cents.

I am in the dog house tonite.
As I accidentally shut in two of our six cats in the attic.
They were probably locked up there for at least 6 hours,
though my wife claims they may have been up their overnight.
but I am sure they were around for the morning feeding of tuna at 6AM,
as I was the one who feed them all this morning.
But when it came time for the afternoon feeding, two of them were no where to be found.
I searched high and low several times checking the usual hiding spots
and also checking rooms that i know have but shut for days.
We have a big two story house with finished basement with lots of rooms.
After about 30 minutes of frantic looking,
and my wife accusing me of having let them outdoors when peeing the dog
(all our cats are indoors only),
finally decided to check the attic, which I swear I had not been in for several days,
(last time was to bring down the Xmas tree lights.)
Anyway there was Jack and Mojo, in the stairwell and landing leading up to the attic.
How they got in there, no clue, unless I did not latch the door fully when last up there
and one of the cats, probably Mo, opened the door followed by Jack to sneak
into "unexplored no cats land"
and then possibly some other cat closed the door behind them.
My wife is ticked at me, claiming I probably responsible for killing them as
she predicts 14yr old Jack will die within 3 days, due to trauma
based on the fact that he later this day
decided to mount & dry hump one of our other cats, which he has never done before.
Normally he only dry humps our dog Dewey.
IMHO all the cats are fine, maybe just a little hungry and thirsty, due to their confinement.
Found no pee or poo when I later searched the attic for evidence of such,
but we will now do a head count each night before going to bed
and I installed a new hook latch on the attic door,
so it will not accidentally open to curious cats.

#1219 3 years ago

Our cats always try to sneak in the attic. Curiosity killed the cat as they say. Don’t be toooooo hard on yourself. Cats have nine lives anyways the only real danger is lack of water for an older male cat. With diminished kidney function it can cause problems. I’d watch to make sure their drinking and peeing ok for a day, after that I’d assume they’re fine. If he’s trying to mate anything, I’d assume he’s good to go, if he was in trouble he’d be in hiding. Just love em up and if it helps the wife run them to the vet for a quick blood panel. It’ll show hydration and kidney function. Pic is my mittens givn pac man some love.

My little shits were using the tops of my pinballs to knock out drop ceiling tiles so they could go exploring in the ceiling of the basement.

Ive got one basement room with a finished ceiling....unfortunately, one of the kitties figured out that the next room isnt finshed, but connects..

From time to time that little sh!t sneaks up there into ceiling from other room.

She acts all cute and innocent....but she knows what she doin. Lol.

Aw! He's cute! Yeah, they look a lot similar. Artie has a small black dot on his nose, and I affectionately call him 'Kitler'.

He's definitely the "jump first, deal with consequences later!" type. His brother is the complete opposite.

Visiting the in laws this week
and they have lots of cats (at least 10)
managed to get a photo of one of my favs.
His name is Tangelo aka little Larry,
but since watching A Cristmas Story a dozen times yesterday
I am calling him Scut Farkus, (I swear he has yellow eyes).
