Quoted from whitey:

What’s a real
Nice unrestored catacomb worth ?
A ballpark

Crazy swings on this one. 900-2500

"Nice unrestored" of course can mean a lot with Classic Sterns. I would expect some missing paint and all horrible keylines which is average.

#835 4 years ago
Quoted from Quench:

That's ok, I don't want you cutting cable ties in your game.

He'll just put some new ones one

#840 4 years ago

Right flipper single stack, left double

#842 4 years ago

So my question is, can /should you use some clear on the backboard /bagatelle?

Had to touch up a bit and just wondering. My first thought is always yes.

#844 4 years ago
Quoted from cottonm4:

Why? What did you have to touch up? All you have is a plastic ball floating by once in awhile. The color paint that is there is not fragile.

The paint was missing so I touched it up.

#847 4 years ago
Quoted from Quench:

TheLaw can you comment on the wire colors on your 2nd stacked left flipper button switch?
.

I'm sorry I spaced doing this Quench orange red and blue red

Quoted from Quench:

Thanks!
I think you might have them installed the wrong way.

I've been putting the entire thing back together late nights with the help of a lot of beer, so it's a possibility

Quoted from CPR:

I'd just like to confirm that the purple/violet opaque 5X in the center bonus ladder is correct? Might as well correct them all at once.
Thanks
Mike

Yes the 5X is purple and it's the only purple insert used

#875 4 years ago
Quoted from cottonm4:

Edit: I also notice the number 8 at the “B” drop target is pink, as well.

Quoted from Redketchup:

look like the 8 and the B bank is also wrong!

#882 4 years ago

Well the good news is their might be some Bronze levels PFs ready for the cash strapped Catacomb owners

Quoted from harbngr:

I had signed up on the standby list, but never received an email.

I also never got an email, just saw the post here last night.

Quoted from CPR:

This was a very small run and is sold out but we'll immediately start cutting another small run and will make the changes as you guys have noted.

#889 4 years ago
Quoted from cottonm4:

That is so strange that the sample someone sent to you had this error with two inserts. How?

Quoted from CPR:

We've actually seen this MANY times before.

Haha now the plot thickens!

As you know long time fan but just picked mine up months ago, broke it down right away.
Almost back together now and....WTF...purple insert #5 insert?

And what color are your other 'blue' inserts? Do they match the deep blue of the middle matrix? Cause mine don't.

#954 4 years ago
Quoted from cottonm4:

Anybody any ideas? Thanks.

Weird. Have you tried physically looking at the wires and cross referencing with this list to see if there is a missing J5 or J2 wire not listed?

#956 4 years ago

Oh...schematics are wrong all the time, no back story needed.

Anti climactic I I know

#969 3 years ago

Good luck. I'll let you know if I bump into anything after I get my switches working after my light board swap

#972 3 years ago

To come back around to that wacky FS thread not long ago and some Shapeshifter's early rom stuff...

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/for-sale-catacomb-8/page/2#postbox

I randomly saw the spinner lamps are listed as scoring 1000 points in the schematics and not 500 as most PF state.

I've got some repinning to do and another tweak or 2 but I'm calling this swap done.

EDIT: BG too bright, I'll deal with that

Quoted from Shapeshifter:

Nice!
Is that a playfield protector?

CPR Purple/blue

#994 3 years ago
Quoted from cottonm4:

That play field shines like a diamond in a goat's ass !
Is that CPR clear or did you do some extra clear work?

CPR clear only

#1005 3 years ago
Quoted from Shapeshifter:

So another run of Catacomb.

Things to look out for

Dimple position for top rollovers, eXpecially left
Dimple position for right saucer hardware
Dimple position for right saucer plastic switch
Dimple position for right slingshot hardware

Hmm....i think those are the only issues I had
You'll have to drill the lane guide by flippers

#1014 3 years ago

Yeah the lamp PCBs are nice.

#1023 3 years ago
Quoted from vec-tor:

Question...
is the top right kickout coil primary wire ( yellow or blue/white )?

I think the power on all those coils are yellow?

#1026 3 years ago
Quoted from TigerLaw:

Question:
How do you get the game to lock in on a color? I see that happen sometimes most frequently on the first ball. Does it do that automatically or is it something you activate? Thanks.

Look at the top inlanes, one of them does it. Funny I never noticed the tech on the PF untill recently.

#1032 3 years ago

Complete a color group for bonus x increase

#1036 3 years ago
Quoted from cottonm4:

What is locking those lights supposed to do?

Classic Stern baby, it doesnt have to make sense! Why spot 1, 2, or 6? Why a 136,000 super bonus? Why is Nine Balls 77k? Isnt Big Games super like 27k for filling 3 full bingo cards?
Love it.

#1039 3 years ago
Quoted from cottonm4:

It looks like it is real dark, John. Is that just the photo?

Real dark

#1061 3 years ago
Quoted from harbngr:

psyched.
just got my cpr playfield. Ordered a new backglass. In a couple of months, my cat will be heading to the blocks for a full rebuild.

You doing the PCB lighting?

Quoted from colonel_caverne:

Ok thanks.
Bagatelle is wood painted, plastic,..?

That's a good question; It's some sort of pressed wood. You can see fibers when unscrewing posts from it.

Also, anyone have a link to the ball in the bagatelle in the back? Thanks!

Did a Playfield swap, almost done. Could someone send me a pic of what under the apron looks like? I feel like there’s maybe a piece of hardware that holds that down I’m missing...
Many thanks in advance!

Quoted from cottonm4:

I bought mine as soon as they were for sale. What has that been? 6 months?

OG Purped run came to me early January 2020.

Quoted from cottonm4:

The play field is a smooth as the day I first opened the box. It is an excellent coat of clear; It is as smooth as a baby's butt. I'm installing it as it came from CPR. It needs nothing.

Looks great, mine for sure indented when installing posts which doesn't bother me.

Quoted from cottonm4:

I don't know what it is with the amber inserts...

Ink looks a little diff'rent than other, as on OG PF, inserts but only if you're really inspecting it; Bulb on they all look the same.

Quoted from Agent_Hero:

Where can I get the pop bumper cap (decal?)? My caps are plain yellow.

FYI yellow is stock

Quoted from Agent_Hero:

Is there a way to increase tension on the metal tab....

Yeah just adjust the switch toward the rollover and it will increase tension. Although I got some bitchy trow switches myself.

#1166 2 years ago
Quoted from cottonm4:

John, this is real generous of you Let me know when you are coming. I'll get some chips and dip, make some celery sticks with peanut butter, and break out some chocolate milk. I have a camera so we can record all your scores.

Wish I was closer!

Gross, but congrats.

Edit: at least it lights up those balck rubbers.

Mines almost completely done. Had a tough time fighting ball trow nonsense but I can feel the end is in sight.

#1215 2 years ago

Man I love me some Big Game

#1235 2 years ago
Quoted from kickabit:

Could someone provide some pictures of what their trough looks like? [quoted image]

Well #1 you're missing a little arm that keeps the balls over the hunp.

2, balls getting hung up on there most likely has to do with the tension on the trough switches.
20210801_160531.jpg20210801_160531.jpg20210801_160541.jpg20210801_160541.jpg

#1237 2 years ago
Quoted from kickabit:

I'm not sure I understand how the arm in that picture. Is there just one spring? It doesn't seem like it would be hard to make a new one. Would you be able to get me the dimensions?

My dumb spring is not original. The original is a wrapped around the little post itself causing tension with the arm that allows the ball to travel one way only.

EDIT: Next time I'm in there I'll see if I can get the deminisons.

#1242 2 years ago

Alright, got an interesting one here.

Drop target bank does not reset in start of game or coil test but does fire when shorted.
When all 3 drops are down, the bank continually scores infinitely.
Alltek MPU, all 3 diodes are fine on drop switches, all register correctly in switch test.

Wtf.

Edit: solenoid driver board swap fixed the issue, so time to take a look at the board

#1244 2 years ago
Quoted from Quench:

Which bank of drop targets?

Where are you shorting to test activate the coil?

B bank, shorted coil itself to cabinet ground.
I'll swap boards again and ground the transistor.

Edit: swap back to original board and it works fine lame. I'll have to take a hard look at the og board.

#1249 2 years ago

Yeah that one has a looooooot of work to do. But you it don;t matter if you don;t own it!
Congrats and welcome.

Quoted from zeldarioid:

... Is this expected, because....

No

Quoted from Xtraball:

You should be able to spot all #’s via the bagatelle.

Correct.

Yiu need to go in to switch test and make sure the switches in the A bagatelle lane all work

That no number/target on the PF precludes you from it being awarded in the bagatelle.

#1288 2 years ago
Quoted from zeldarioid:

So, in the Bagatelle play, whichever numbers you have selected in the ABCD banks on the playfield (selectable via the left flipper) correspond to what the Bagatelle gives you (aka lights, or “spots”) in the Toast when you roll down a given chute in the Bagatelle. For example, if I cycle and have orange lit, which corresponds to the number 1 on Bank A, and then I get the ball in the Bagatelle to roll down the A chute, if I haven’t yet collected the number 1 on the playfield through normal play (one of the top lane rollover switches or dropping the Bank A drops while 1 is lit), the Bagatelle is meant to collect it for me. Perhaps “spotting” is a loose term for this behavior, but that’s what I am referring to. Rolling down the A chute in the Bagatelle does not reliably grant me the corresponding lit number from Bank A, and I believe never grants me the 1 or 6 if they are what I have lit and am trying to collect.

Check switches.

#1289 2 years ago
Quoted from zeldarioid:

That’s the kicker: I’ve done that, and they do. I’ve adjusted the leaf switches a little bit to make them more reliable, as that was the first thing I thought, but the weirder part is that it seems to be the worst w/ only the 1 and 6, never (or very rarely, if ever, but it seems like never) granting them when lit.

Take the glass off and test it with the 1 of 6 lit. The idea that it "doesn't seem to happen a lot" isn't very scientific they are random numbers no diff'rent than the other numbers.

#1291 2 years ago
Quoted from zeldarioid:

..make sense w/ that in the backbox?

... I suppose it’s entirely possible that my sample size is too small and it just *seems* like 1/6 are never spotted and the others are...

No it wouldn't make any sense, there's absolutely no importance to any number over another; thats why I assume its just perceived or coincidence

#1302 1 year ago

Those trough switches can be very touchy....that whole system of metal switches is weird. So just start there.
