For anyone with a Catacomb that has a blown out and flaked bagatelle back box board, Mirco is now reproducing them. I got this one from TPF the other day. It looks fantastic.

Caution: Mirco has had problems with his clear coat in the past. I cannot speak to how durable the clear on this board is, but it looks very nice.

The one issue I have is that the dimples for locating the rollover switches are not located correctly (not centered to the slot) but it is something that is easy to fix.

So is it actual wood?

9 or 10 plies. Real wood. You can see the grain in the wood. The OG board is MDF.

I can't imagine the clearcoat being much of an issue on that specific "playfield", right? It's not going to have near the same kind of stressors the a regular playfield would have.

There are posts that are being screwed to the surface so pooling is a possibility.

One issue that has come up with the way Mirco makes his play fields is that he does the graphics and clear coat first. And then he does his machine cutting. This leaves sharp unprotected edges along the sides of each cut hole. Taking a tip from Kruzman I will run a brush loaded with clear to seal in the cut edges.

Maybe ease them a little bit with sandpaper.

The issue, according to Kruzman, is if a play field is inked, then cut, then cleared, that the clear will cover the cut edges and seal the play field. Whereas, if the play field is cleared and then cut, the open edges allow moisture from humidity to creep in between the finish and the wood and do damage long term.

I can no way verify this but it sounds plausible. Considering it will not take all that much work to "seal" the edges I will do this on both this back board and on my Dragonfist play field.
