Dear all, given the current drama related to boutique pin makers, I wanted to share some good news: Quetzal Captain Nemo #1, initially expected at my home on November 29 (this year!) should be delivered soon. The machine will be delivered at my door step by its creator and maker, Antonio, making a special trip together with his wife. Classy ! This will be my first NIB! Expect a party mixing French and Spanish people speaking a language we call English.

I am a bit superstitious, so I will add it to my collection the day I can play it at home. Will give some periodic update of the final countdown (and pictures when ready !).

I pre-ordered mine in Spring 2012… 30 months ago. Here is a screen shot save I made at that time when I registered. I played an early prototype in Madrid in September 2012, but have not played it since. Can't wait!

If you imagine that the wait can be frustrating for the buyer, imagine how frustrating it must be for the maker. There are hundreds of things that can go wrong… and some did. You don't like preorders – good. But without them Nemo would never have become a reality. As many other cool projects.

Kudos to those who embark on the insane task of making a new pin starting from scratch! Nemo is the ultimate boutique pin with a total run of only 14 machines, assembled 2 at a time in his garage by Antonio and his wife (she must hate pinball now! ).

This should be the second boutique maker who succesfully deliver its product. Spooky / Ben Heck were amazingly efficient with America Most Haunted. I am sure others will soon follow.

Antonio has a website (which could be updated more often, I must say): if you are interested in this project, have a look there: http://www.quetzalpinball.com or check the thread Antonio started 2 years and seven months ago on Pinside: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/captain-nemo-by-quetzal-pinball

freaking awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Might have considered having one , but with only 14 made i guess that won't be happening.

Would love to play that thing if I ever come near Bdx, or maybe you can bring it to "Flipper in Tarn" or "Montanceix" ^^

congrats!

That art is beyond all pinball art, even tbl gets blown away by this.

#10 9 years ago

Such a shame LCDs are big dead black rectangles when they're off.

#11 9 years ago

Woo-hoo!!! That's awesome news Jean-Louis! Can't wait to see some game play video of this gorgeous pinball machine!

#12 9 years ago

Video... Video..Video..

Congrats and hope to see an update after you have time to play. Art looks fantastic IMO at least from a color scheme standpoint.

You are welcome. This pin will do its first official outing in Montanceix next June: my way to thank Yvain and Jerome for organizing this great party. Possibly in Festi-flip 2015 as well.

Picture of the "factory" (i.e. Antonio's basement ) last August. Now filled with workers (Antonio and his wife) speaking Spanish... as in Stern factory.

All this work for just 14 pins.. Why?

#21 9 years ago

I share your excitement, it looks like a BEAUTIFUL machine. I hope you get years of enjoyment out of it, or... tire of it very fast and sell it to me for pennies on the dollar =)

#25 9 years ago

That's almost as amazing as it's looks!

#26 9 years ago

Antonio is a great guy. I've had the pleasure of working with him on some projects in the past. This game is going to be spot on! Those 14 people are lucky ones indeed

I hope you enjoy your unboxing party

Look at all the custom p-proc projects... all that work for 1 pin. For some people the work is the reward.

#28 9 years ago

Congrats. That looks to be some pin. Video of the pin and party if you please.

#29 9 years ago

What was the price on this pin?

#30 9 years ago
Quoted from Concretehardt:

What was the price on this pin?

4300 euros (excluding taxes and transport) without a coin door / coin mech
4450 euros with.

In two weeks I will be in France for deliver the first Nemo, and for sure I will be very busy, here you are a pic of the pinball making final tweaks

Gustavo did an amazing work for this pinball, and can be exposed in a museum.
Luckily, when the pinball is on, the screen is well integrated on the playfield.

Just 14 pinball? for me are a lot of pinballs!!!!
but I understand ... it a mix of passion for pinball and insanity (most of the second)

U know we can probably sell u a coin door with my headphone kit since it uses my amp!

#34 9 years ago

Are there any gameplay videos? I'd love to see this lcd monitor in gameplay.

The artwork is gorgeous and the build looks top notch! Congrats on a beautiful game.

Thanks, but before I knew the amp I was going to use, I designed a pcb that goes in the front bottom of the cabinet to plug the headphones

No, sorry, I will upload videos in two weeks

Jlm33, are you getting standard or plated ramps?
Looking forward to you getting your game!

#38 9 years ago
Quoted from Skulz:

Jlm33, are you getting standard or plated ramps?

- Standard - although I seriously considered the brass finish. Seems truly gorgeous when new but unsure about durability.
- Regular Coin door. Anyone picked the "no coin door option"? I am curious.

#39 9 years ago

I don't remember what coin door I picked.
I am going with standard finish.
Had same concerns about the wear on the brass finish.
It did look really neat though.

Sadly... another delay.

Antonio was not satisfied with the quality of some parts... so I will have to wait a bit more.
Here is a picture of the "assembly line" as it stands.

Will keep you posted!
