Wow! I had the exact same issue happen to me tonight. (Of course while I was hosting our pinball league.)
The game would start, go to ball 1, ball 2, ball 3, game over.
After league I opened it up and found that the top rollover on the left orbit was stuck. I freed it up and all was good. So, that might have been your issue, too.
