Quoted from hlaj78:

Many of the components in the remakes that have been done so far have been changed although the rules and layout have remained the same.

You can listen to the KP seminar on Twitch where they address the Capcom parts vs other parts.

Previous remakes - assuming you mean MMR and AFMR. Only difference is the boards and lights. All mechanical parts are the same as used in the original games. Though brand new, the parts are made to Williams specs.

Quoted from Jvspin:

I think my preference would be to use standard parts for the typical high wear replacement items wherever possible. Makes it easier when you don't have to stock special parts for just one machine.

And if you could find the special parts, they would be pricier than standard available Williams parts. Of which seem to be available for a long time into the future with so many companies using them and parts sellers stocking them.

Quoted from snakesnsparklers:

I wouldn't be against WPC style flippers if going the Capcom route was cost prohibitive. People will complain but the alternative would either be no KP or KP too expensive and maybe not enough orders to produce.

Easy to do and maybe use Capcom style coils.

Kingpin question?? How many games are being built ? Can I buy one ?

Send a PM to pkiefert and he'll let you know all the details. And I'm sure you can buy one.

You got a better company to build them ?

Speak now or forever hold your peace.

Quoted from LoveNeverDiesGuy:

Why not American Pinball? Is their manufacturing flawed?

No. And the move to the new building includes three assembly lines. Two for them. And one for projects just like this.

Quoted from Whysnow:

Is it confirmed that AP is now making Kingpin?

No.

AP/CGC/Stern/ nothing confirmed.

All we know is Paul posted he is going to Chicago in his King Pin being built thread.

Heck he could even be going to Pinball Life to order pinball parts to start production at their own building.

He could bear really late or early for Pinball Expo.

Technically I'm going to Chicago so I can eat a hot dog with Ketchup on it and see what happens.

Either soul satisfying. Or a rush to get out, one way or ta other.

Good luck. I hope the former for you.

Maybe they are at cgc

Maybe they are on a hot dog pilgrimage. To taste every hot dog the city has to offer.

We haven’t had an update in a long time

10 Days ago on this thread. Not that long ago. And now the holidays. Awhile after the first of the year they'll post some news when there is some. They are likely making up parts list on what is needed and checking into companies to build, if they don't themselves.

We'll get news when there is some and more than is out there now.

I bet they don't even have the license.

Wow.

They've worked with PPS for a long time now going back to their Pinball Circus project.

Hardly an inside joke when he's been answering questions and representing the company for multiple pages.

And we don't know if he left the company and attacked them.

Wouldn't be the first time on Pinside.

Lloyd

Quoted from Mr68:

Come on Lloyd. It's hysterically funny!

Yes. Just like when that guy from JJP was fired and leaked the next three game titles on Pinside. Or that guy that had left the company building The Big Lebowski and still threw that huge party at Expo with company money according to posts here that was supposed to go to building games.

HaHaHa. You are right Kim. It's a fucking hoot !

I heard from a good source that BBBR is next ?

Too cool.

Quoted from whitey:

What doesn’t make sense is 2 Capcom pins made with different manufacturers

I'd wait until they are rolling down the assembly line before trying to make any sense.

Quoted from whitey:

Rumor is CGC may make BBBR. But no way of knowing if we'll ever see it.

Circus Maximus was in Chicago awhile back talking to various manufacturers. So they may hire one to do it, or do it themselves.

So if Circus Maximus hires CGC to build Kingpin, and if CGC makes BBBR. Then it wouldn't be different manufacturers.

Only time will tell.

Only thing for sure is anyone wanting a Big Bang Bar or a Kingpin. I hope your chance to own one comes true.

Quoted from Tommy-dog:

I heard that American Pinball will make the game for them on their assembly line.

I don't know if anything definite has been planned yet. Cirqus Maximus has looked at other companies to manufacture the game, like CGC and AP. Or they might make their own line.

It may be awhile. But once they are rolling I'm sure we'll get the info.

LTG : )

#679 4 years ago

Maybe they aren't set up for more than the pinball machines and video games they make ?

No idea on the video games. But right now they have MMR's going, and eventually their next game.

You'd have to find a company with more than one line, and maybe people.

LTG : )

#685 4 years ago
Quoted from pkiefert:

Any speculation of the death of the Kingpin project is fake news.

People need to realize this project takes time. These are a few people. Not all in the same area. Bringing the project together. Not a whole company. So when something comes up like acceptable playfield/parts/what ever. It needs to be dealt with and solved.

Once the project is rolling. Things will be smoother and quicker. They have reported in the past on hiring an existing manufacturer to build them, or make their own line.

It will take some time. But well worth the wait. They have already shown what they can do and the direction they are headed at pinball shows. And it is an amazing game. More so with the improvements they have added.

Quoted from jake35:

Couldn't they just sell everything they have done up to this point to a manufacturer like CGC and let them take it to completion? Seems a shame to let the entire project die.

No sign they are letting it die.

Granted this year has probably been a disaster for many companies to move forward. I'm sure they want to move it forward.

I’m still wondering what was the point to build a first Kingpin which will not match the planned production one on anything.

To design and test your own boards and electronics inside a working machine.

Quoted from Warzard:

For me, after more than 3 years of unacheived things, we ce speak freely.

I was answering the question.

I'd never say anyone can't speak freely.

Kingpin is my favorite pin. I wish the project was moving faster too.

Being that James and Paul, and others are doing it all on their own. And live in different parts of the country. Bringing the project together isn't easy. And they have jobs and families too.

We do know they were in Chicago pre covid talking to several potential manufacturers. And I believe they considered setting up production in Jame's building.

I wish they'd keep us posted on progress, even if not much is happening.

I wish them every success in getting this project done so they can use the profits to get Pinball Circus out the door. James was a devoted friend to Python and that is where all this started. To honor his friend's legacy.

James has been successfully creating products in this hobby for over a decade.

Quoted from flynnibus:

I was too lazy to lookup the start... cuz no way I'm dealing with RGP searching on a friday night I knew that statement was on the safe side

Understood.

I thought it worth mentioning because of James ramps were being made again after Williams closed. Not an easy task considering what he all had to do just to make that happen.

He's done a lot more. But the ramps were a great accomplishment to pinball.

Quoted from chuckwurt:

Who was manufacturing this before?

https://www.circusmaximusgames.com/ was working on Kingpin to fund Python's Pinball Circus machine. Facebook page hasn't been updated since January 26, 2020.

Last I heard they spoke with several manufacturers about building them from their work, or they'd build them themselves. They have a large enough building.

Then covid hit and not much news since then.

I hope it happens so they can then do Python's game.

LTG : )

#972 2 years ago
Quoted from Pinhead1982:

Williams did try and make BBB out of Williams parts, but it was a bust.. so I heard Williams did not go through with the purchase.

Williams needed a game for after Cactus Canyon in case P2K wasn't ready yet. They had a white wood with some art work and Williams boards. Lyman working on software. P2K was ready to go so a Williams BBB stopped. The two games went to Mike Pacak, the disassembled one he made back into a Capcom BBB.

Someone should take this over...

At one point Circus Maximus was in Chicago checking with potential companies to make it, or they'd do it themselves. This was reported here on Pinside.

Post covid, there hasn't been much in the way of news.

I hope those involved are healthy. And then I hope this project moves forward.

Quoted from PinStalker:

How many of the BBB remakes were make in the 2000's using leftover OEM parts?
It's not 8 in existence, it's like 100 isn't it?

At one point Gene had 183 working board sets, so that was what he was going to make.

The original Capcom ones I've heard different numbers. 10, 13, and 14.

At one time I could account for 8, not including the one lost in a fire.

LTG : )

#1095 1 year ago
Quoted from Miguel351:

The BBB had way more built by Capcom, 14 or 15,

Head of the BBB design team has said three different numbers. 10, 13, and 14. There were a lot of games being played at Capcom, so there may never be an accurate number known.

From my digging, I doubt more than 10 total.

LTG : )

#1096 1 year ago
Quoted from Roostking:

From parts, or he is "Gene"?

Quoted from Isochronic_Frost:

That one he built is from parts and materials he made himself. Gene died a few years ago.

Search his posts. You'll find some of his work there. An amazing person.

LTG : )

#1101 1 year ago

He ain't Gene.

LTG : )

#1102 1 year ago

As I recall the couple that were built. And I might not be 100% accurate. They used boards from other Capcom pins or found them. The rest they made themselves.

There is no stock pile of BBB or KP parts laying around. With the exception of BBB translites ( 3,000 ) and BBB drop target stickers ( likely 3,000 sets ).

LTG : )

#1103 1 year ago

If you mean Gene Cunningham of Illinois Pin Ball that remade 183 BBB's, he died 3 or 4 years ago.

LTG : )

#1106 1 year ago
Quoted from jake35:

How do they get the game specific parts made?

Make a lot of them themselves. Look up the guy that made two Medieval Madness games ( finished right before the remakes were announced ). I think he made everything other than the translites.

Check out the Medieval Madness a guy made in a castle looking cabinet. Same thing. There are some very talented people out there.

Quoted from Isochronic_Frost:

It also helps to use a donor, but I hate seeing Flipper Football’s and Breakshots destroyed when they are both good games. My FF is popular with casuals, and Breakshot is an underrated masterpiece.

Breakshot has different unique boards in the head.

I suspect Airborns, Pinball Magic, and Flipper Football games were donors. If they didn't find spare boards. Maybe not now, but a lot of the boards were around a decade ago.
