Capcom Flipper Football False Goal Problem

I have had a Flipper Football game for years. Always a party favorite. For years I have had a false goal issue. The designer of the game contacted me years ago and told me to unplug the opto in the subway after the goal area...helped a little, but didn't do the trick. I replaced the connectors on the goal optos - helped for awhile and then issues returned. I replaced the opto boards with the new reproduction boards - this worked the best, but sadly the false goals returned. I replaced the goal boards again...here this wored for awhile and then the false goals returned. Seems if the game is on for awhile it happens almost all the time (false goals while playing). Of course it is super frustrating and it is a favorite game, just wondering if anyone has had this issue?
thanks!

Have this as well when machine is up for a while. Seems to be a thermic problem but i did not had the time to search for the problem.

I made same like you: unplug the subway and replaced the opto boards with the ones from Great Lakes Modular. This worked well for some months.

Out of curiosity, does the game have LED's? Back when I had a FF, I ended up replacing the bad optos on the the goal boards, rather than replacing the the boards themselves. I used a digital camera to check the transmitters and a LED flashlight to check the receivers in switch test.

My thought is, if you have LED's in the GI or anywhere near the goal opto boards, maybe they are causing the receivers to give false returns.

yes it does, and I like your thoughts, but this game did this with the factory lights as well...appreciate the comments.

I came across this old post as I am now a FF owner and had lots of phantom goals. What I did to solve the problem was to unplug the bank of optos by the goal.

After I lifted the playfield, there is a red connector on the left and after unplugging it, the opto in the subway was still working so the game plays great. There is a slight delay when you get the ball past the "goalie" and you will get beaten by the halftime/final buzzer in some instances. Regardless, this did the trick and I think it'll work for you as long as your opto in the subway is working fine.

I figured it seems to be fatigue related. Those optos get hot as hell after being on at the arcade all day. That seems to cause false goal flair ups constantly!

My DMD is also dying on me, so if anyone has a spare of the high-def DMD used ONLY for Flipper Football please please let me know! My playfield has some nasty wear too, if anyone has an NOS. I know Capcom was blowing them out for cheap when they closed

I saw in another thread that someone was talking to the ColorDMD guys about this. Would be nice to have ColorDMD support and this game has amazing dots!

I miss my Flipper Football. That one is always a hit with the crowd. I also had issues with the false goals but I had my tech take care of it. It would flare up every few months.

What did your tech do to fix it?
