I was shorted a 22uf 25v polarized capacitor with a LED display rebuild kit for my Farfalla. Can I substitute a non-polarized 22uf 25v? I seem to recall reading that you can sub non-polarized for polarized, but not the reverse.

Yes, in general, you can sub a non-polarized electrolytic for a polarized one.
