Quick Story about crossing the border with contraband.
Earlier this month I was headed to watch Super Bowl with an old college buddy, he lives in Washington
where apparently, while pot is legal, one can not buy any clones or live starter plants,
so he asked me to bring a couple of plants which are readily available for sale legally in Oregon.
So I got him a couple of plants (They were about 12-18in tall)
Covered them with a 13 gal garbage bag and loaded them into the back of my xtra cab pickup,
also was going to bring him about a half oz. of some of my home grown from last year crop,
(put that in the glove box).
All was good cruising on the freeway on the 3 hr drive to his home on Sunday morning.
Crossed the Columbia River then headed the last 20 miles up the hi-way grade on the way to his house.
Then in my rear view mirror I see some flashing lights.
Oh Sh*t
The cab was reeking, but fortunately there was a stiff wind blowing, so i deftly rolled down the windows
and let the wind blow thru the cab and out the other side.
Normally I would be sweating bullets, but rec pot is legal in both states,
(what a difference a few years makes.)
But what i was not sure about was transporting a half lid and 2 small plants across state lines,
and there were no towns nor dispensaries between the border and where i was
stopped about 5 miles inside Washington.
Long story short, the state trooper gave me a ticket for speeding,
he was nice about it and only wrote me up for 5 mph over,
even though he claimed I was going 19mph over the limit at one point
climbing up the steep grade out of the gorge, (doubtful in my mind, but I was not going to argue).
Saved me some $$, since fine was only $93 instead of close to $300.
Do not know if he was ever aware of what was behind my seat or if he suspected anything,
but the plants must have been well disguised under those hefty bags,
as they were in otherwise plan sight,
and the stiff wind must have done the job of blowing all the aroma out the other side of the truck.
Lesson learned, Do not speed while caring contraband.
