Quoted from Mahoyvan:
My fellow beaver-eaters,
Where does everyone get their soldering accessories from? Solder for example... Obviously theres 100's of different types available, but every store I've been to there's only been one option. Hell, the only place I could find desoldering braid was in The Source and it's thing as dental floss.
Home Depot, Canadian Tire, Rona etc - All the same "fix all" option.
Online only i've found. Get Kester or lead based solder. It obviously contains lead, but it flows way better and works much nicer than any solder i've found locally.
Here is one site but with the exchange sucking its a fair bit more. I got mine quite awhile ago.
or this for a lot cheaper.
It's pricey and you may find it elsewhere for cheaper, but if you do a lot of soldering like I do it will last you forever.
Also if you plan on doing a lot of soldering/desoldering get a soldering pump like the Hakko F300 (I have it). Literally 100 times faster and easier than braid and much less chance to ruin traces. I used to really like braid, but its slow and sometime the solder gives you trouble. I've found I lift a lot less of everything off the board. You can buy a manual pump for really cheap too.
Local electronic stores are your only other option for anything. Such as B&E or MRO here in Calgary. They do ship as well though, so they would be good options too.
