I am having a problem attaching most of my older photos to posts using my iPad. Has anyone else had this problem? When I select an older photo to attach to a post, nothing happens. Yet, recent photos attach with no problem.

Problem is apple sucks. Just kidding, but not really. I believe that apple iPhoto deletes your local copy after it's backed up to the cloud. All you're really seeing, and trying to upload, is essentially a thumbnail. If you want to upload those pics you'll need to download them back to your device first. This is the explanation I received from apple support once, years ago, just prior to switching to Samsung. Cause like I said, apple sucks.
Your iPad will download any assets needed when you select them. So, in the photo picker UI, if you tap on a thumbnail, a white circle should appear that fills in as the asset downloads. Once it's done, it switches to a blue check mark and can be uploaded. I just tested this out with an iPad running iOS 10.3.
If you tell me which iPad you have and which version of iOS and which browser you're using, that would be helpful.
