this doesn't answer your question, but, C12 ? on your BK board looks suspect

looking at both schematics for the boards, the only difference is in the jumpers, that i see, as you have stated.
P5-13 A11 on the Comet joins W2 to W1 then to ground, and joins to each of U4, 5, 6, & 7 pin 18 which has an E with a line above it.....don't know this symbol, guessing someone on here will.
this is different to the schematic for BK.
jumpers possibly so to use different roms?
