It was a free service until Ebay bought them and decided to double dip and get charges from you from your auction as well as the payment and now shipping. Screw them. Ebay already price hikes enough.
paypal added fees when they allowed you to fund a transaction with credit cards.. sending money without cards is still free (unless you've setup your receiver account to allow for free credit cards)
