I have a lost world pin that's a basket case. I was thinking about buying a stencil kit and converting the cabinet into an 8 ball deluxe?

Will this work? The cabinet appears to be the same as the original 8 ball deluxe.

I could be wrong, but it looks to me like the cabinets are externally identical. The backbox displays seem to be in the exact same spots. Strangely, Bally's flyers don't bother to give the cabinet dimensions, so I can't say for sure.

Here is a thread from RGP about doing the opposite. Putting a Lost World into a '81 era cabinet: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/rec.games.pinball/YcNiGZsdWfU

They mention that the Lost World backglass is thicker than the Centaur's backglass channel will take. In your case I guess the Eight Ball glass will be loose in the Lost World's slot? The last word from that thread is that it's too much work to bother and just find the correct cabinet to make into an Eight Ball Deluxe.

I don't know why not. You'll probably have to modify the playfield support rails and, of course, the light board in the head, but it should work.

I once got an Elektra working in a Mata Hari cabinet. Elektra being multi-layer PF I had to move the support rails. I got someone to take a few photos of an Elektra light board with horizontal and vertical tape measures in the photo and used GIMP's perspective removal tool to get a pretty good read on where the lights should be in the light board. Then I came across an Elektra head and used that instead. I crimped some adapter cables to make the MH transformer board work, mounted a squak-n-talk and got it all up and running. I got tired of the whole effort and never got to painting it... basically once it was playing I just played and lost all motivation to continue. Eventually I took it to Allentown and it ran in freeplay for two days before I sold it (for pretty darned cheap as I remember).

It's even in one of the TNT Amusement video tours of Allentown - Todd always has a kind word for what he sees and this half-baked project basically sent him speechless! (Pinfest 2013, Todd's video # 204)

All in all, great fun!
