As they say, you NEVER have enough photos when you tear a machine down... I've had my Scared Stiff apart doing the playfield restoration for over a year, and it's "almost" back together. This part has me stumped at the moment. It looks like it could go over a ramp, given that their are some traces of a ball trail curving though the middle from the flat side to the extended rectangle part.

Does someone with Scared Stiff experience recognize this piece?

In the coin slot.

OK... one down, now the other...

The next logical reply should be "The Playfield"

Ok, here's a shot. How about a cover over the right ramp entrance?

I wish I had one to look for you ...

It goes on the curve at the back of the boney ramp (fastens to the ramp). It keeps balls from flying out of there.

Thank you Budfan! I found the mounting holes that align. I was wondering if I had lost one of the standoffs, but from looking at the trace evidence on the old ramp it looks like they intended for the piece to mount at an angle to direct air balls back down into the ramp. The two screws I have fit the holes on the old ramp, so I'm thinking all is good now.

I do have one concern about the wiring that is attached to the back of that ramp that goes to the rear optos... it looks like the sharp tipped screws to mount this piece will dig right into the wires, so some rerouting will be needed to avoid that. Anyone with a picture of how those wires should route?

Thanks Jad! Help like this is what really makes Pinside work.

Everybody gives a little when they can, and then there are a few smart asses that keep things light. Ramps going back on tonight!

One additional question. There is a bracket attached to the top of the left lane guide at the top of the playfield. This part appears to be the same as a flipper return spring bracket. There was nothing attached to it. Is this someone's hack, or is it supposed to be there? Is there supposed to be a spring attached to secure one of the ramps?

Post a picture of the area where the bracket appears; perhaps it's a DIY attempt to prevent a ball trap.

Here it is... Can't really see a ball getting stuck here.

Maybe that was something to attach a mod to?

Definitely not from the factory.

Thanks everyone... I didn't think it was factory, but wanted to confirm before I yank it out.

I've removed things in the past that I didn't understand , just to end up replacing them later once the purpose becomes obvious. Working on this playfield is a real booger. The ramp removal/reinstallation is not something I want to do too often.
