Expansion and contraction. Typically not an issue if indoors with constant room temperature. However, if you are doing construction and the temp is fluctuating, it can happen. Placing the vertical joints at the opening corners would be beneficial.

Similar issue as if they were humid, they will contract as they dry out. The cracks definitely appear to be an E/C issue.
