    Hey all.

working on my Bally Vector pin and have some issues that i need pics to solve.

i have scoured the internet and can find at least 5-8 different ways if not more how this area is put together.

i have no idea if plastic posts are supposed to be there, or if metal posts are supposed to be there, or a combination of both are supposed to be there, or if i even have the correct posts for the area ect....

even on https://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=2723 there are at least 2 different ways it was done and it is even different on the flyer.

i don't even know if there is supposed to be a plastic there???? as i don't have one on my machine.

from looking over the internet some machines have it and some don't.

this area looks like it is HEAVILY abused by the ball from all the flipper action it gets.

ANY help and pics folks can offer of a stock machine would be great.

the area on mine is TORE UP!!! i even have a metal post/stud or something broke off in the PF that i will have to carefully remove somehow.

i just want to see what i should have and try to fix it the best that i can to have the game play properly.

pics and the direct imgur links below.

    Thanks for any help.

I have the exact same issue. I bought a Vector last year and was planning on re-theming it. Mine was a little rough and missing a few plastics so I started research what I was missing and saw the same variations you are describing.

There were 3 Vectors I saw at expo this year and they were all different for that area of the playfield.

Here is my Vector. Mine has the double coin door so I think it's one if the earlier production games.

Here is Expo Vector #1. Similar to mine but doest have the metal post mine has to the right of the blue plastic post.

Here is Expo Vector #2. This one had thinner metal post in front instead of plastic.

Here is Expo Vector #3. This has extra mini post in the front. Possibly put there to keep ball from hitting edge of metal ramp on the right?

Hope all 5his helps with your research!

    thanks for the reference pics.

those help establish what a couple good versions should look like.

mine is a 3 slot coin door so i have to assume it is a later production.

hopefully a couple other owners will shoot some pics of theirs, this way me and others looking for reference will have good ideas on how they want to set up that area if it is as buggered like mine is.

i may make that small plastic out of metal so it does not get broke and can take extra abuse.

thanks for the pic of your PF.

i need to figure out what mine "may" have been and see about the best way to mount the posts.

maybe another collector will have a different factory or good solution they came up with.

thanks to all for the help so far.

@buffet, vector no 3 in docquest picture is the correct one, metal post with small plastic,

I restored one last year, and what I found is that no 2 vectors are the same, especially with artwork!!!!

Vector was one of 4 experimental pins , basically Bally was changing and had a group effort in design
Bally also wanted to clear out warehouse space and told engineers to basically have at it,

That artwork is so minutely detailed that reproduction and qc must've been a nightmare, I found at least a dozen small variations on the 2 playfields I had

that is pretty interesting that Bally had a field day with this pin.
no wonder there are so many different examples out there.

    this pic correct?

Close, I missed the depth of the post in front of the ramp, I also didn't see TIB pic

That pic is exactly how it should be, the other looks like the hole was drilled to big, I ran into an issue where there was 2 holes instead of one, if your hole is too big , you can use a bit of automotive filler and redrill

i don't know how well you can see the damage in my first post of my PF but i have some pretty big holes, and a splintered out wide area of wood to fill in or any post will not sit level or high enough.

i may have to use a hard epoxy or similar filler to make the PF level again and then re-drill all new holes.

probably have to paint part of the area black to kinda hide the damage and filler.

i am NOT a painter by any means.

any tips on a good hard filler to use that will not break out when re-drilled?

This is the pf I replaced....lol

You could use a 2 part epoxy, but use aluminum tape top and bottom of the hole, let cure before removing tape and slowly redrill

And this is the exact plastic that goes there, if you are missing it , send me a pm with your address and I'll snail it to you!

yours is pretty bad for sure.

i have a bit more work ahead of me for mine.
some big hols to fill and a trench to fill and smooth over.

hopefully it will not be to bad and the posts will hold.
i will probably use larger washers under the posts to give more surface area.
this will look kinda tacky but i don't want the PF to get damaged again with all the ball traffic it gets there.

i was also thinking about making a metal topper instead of plastic so it helps keep the heads of the posts vertical and parallel to the PF.

cool can do, thanks for all your help.

i will eventually go over the pin thoroughly.

i have been fixing it slowly the last couple weeks.

    still need to:

repin ALL connectors, i just can't stand bad/intermittent problems from bad connections.
strip and clean PF and all parts, love my game to be clean top to bottom.
properly LED it from commet and NOT turn it purple or make it blind you during game play.
get Titan Rubbers, love the bounce.
rebuild ALL moving parts, if something is not working properly it kills game play, and i SUCK at pinball.
find any broken items, plastics and anything else on the PF or under.
put on a PF protector because i like looking at the art forever and have no issues with using a PF protector.

i know a good painter so i may get here to touch it up for me.

so lots of work still to do but all worth it for a game i will keep and enjoy playing.

I essentially rebuilt that Vector top to bottom!

That painter will hate you lol

My recommendation? If it has original boards and you don't want issues, get Barakandis mpu and a aftermarket driver board!

Also, I spent waaaaay too much time dealing with the ball trough switches they are very sensitive!!!!

    HA!!
i have known the painter for years, i like giving her a challenge
she paints small petite items all the time by hand so i think she can handle it.
as long as she has a good example to compare to she's good.

ATM i have gone over all the boards, i repair monitors mostly for a living so a little/a lot of older Pinball PCB work is a good challenge.

i personally like OEM hardware when i can use it.
i know Gottlieb systems you cannot repair if the spider chips are bad but i don't have any of them ATM.

thanks for the recommendations for new boards if i need to go that way in the future.

here are some pics of a driver board i reworked for a phoenix.
ALL the known upgrades have been done to it.
badly damaged but now fully repaired and working great.

thanks for the tip on the ball trough switches.
i will look them over good.

    Peace
