A lot of people have asked me what the best earning machines are for a location. Below is a list of the games at Cactus Jacks in Oklahoma City and their relative performance. These are machines that have been in operation for at least 6 months and does not include WWE, IMVE, AMH, or TWD.

Sorry for the poor formatting - my manual formatting didn't work

    dont understand the percentage part.
how much per day do each of the above make. thats the easiest way to present.

    #3 9 years ago

How is that hard to understand.. it's the percentage of the total coin drop for the arcade that the game pulled in. So WOZ pulled 6.57 percent of the total coins dropped into games for the period..

    GO TRON!

    #4 9 years ago

Oh, and based on this list, I have a good feeling about the circuit event.. man, there's only like two games on this list that I'm not real familiar with scoring on.

    #5 9 years ago
    Quoted from Frax:

So which machine of the following two is the most productive?

    -- Wizard of Oz 570 6.57
    -- Dr Who 247 3.73

    Quoted from Razorbak86:

So which machine of the following two is the most productive?
    -- Wizard of Oz 570 6.57
    -- Dr Who 247 3.73

I guess Dr Who cost 2k, WOZ cost 8k, so yields will be all over the place. Just another data point though. Interesting enough for what it is.

    #7 9 years ago

That's the part that's hard to understand.

If Oz made 6.57% in 570 days and Dr Who made 3.73% in 247 days, doesn't that mean that Dr Who could be expected to make 7.46% in 494 days (2x247)?

Personally, I think the op meant, for example, the percentage was for last month, but the number of days on location was provided to watch the incline/decline of sales based on the length of time the pin was in rotation.

The number of days maybe isn't too important. It was when compiling to make sure to eliminate games (leaders) because of being new (WWE would win by a landslide, but only a couple weeks of earnings)

On any given day, WOZ gets an average of 6.57% of the coin drop while Dr Who would realize 3.73%. If $100 were dropped in a day, WOZ would have $6.57 and Dr Who would have $3.73. Use any dollar amount you'd like.

I should have said- the % is of average daily coin drop . . .

My TWD is #2, but too young to include as meaningful with WWE #1 (heck, even Mustang was #1 for at least a week or two )

DAILY drop %. So it's current. May not reflect past performance.

Edit: this was a reply to a guy who has since deleted his post. It was funny, too bad I didn't copy it.

I'm surprised that Elvis was so much lower than all the others. I would've thought the theme would be a bit hit on route.

Not surprising at all. Addams family is pretty much THE game non pinheads remember. They were everywhere on route and got a lot of exposure. Doctor Who is having a resurgence right now and a lot of new people are discovering the show. Star Trek has had the 2 new movies, not to mention TNG is still a HUGELY popular series. T2 was also all over the place back in the day, is still the best movie in the series, and has a new movie coming soon.

I've got a Flash on location, at $.25 a play, earns an average of $10 a day.

    #20 9 years ago

Can't thank you enough for posting these...really helpful for someone who is new to this.

Pretty interesting that there are 5 car/motorcycle themed games, and aside from Mustang - the other four are literally dead last.

I'd been thinking that I need to get a CFTBL, but seeing this - I'd rather have WoF instead.

I'd be happy to post a similar breakdown from my location. Maybe I'll add 'em to the Operating Pins on Location Club.

    #21 9 years ago

Its nice to see WOZ on top, great game. It deserves to be there. I guess that big LCD screen really draws people in , as it should. The game is beautiful.

    #22 9 years ago

Here's mine. Barcade in a college town that also has the busiest dance floor on the weekends. Most patrons in their 20s and 30s. TWD, ST, TSPP, and LOTR are 75 cents, everything else is 50. Percentage is the percentage for that game of the total coin drop over an identical 3 month period (same lineup throughout).

    Walking Dead: 13.5%
    The Addams Family: 13.3%
    Star Trek: 12.2%
    Simpsons Pinball Party: 10.9%
    Attack from Mars: 10.2%
    Lord of the Rings: 10.1%
    Spider-man: 10.0%
    Scared Stiff: 8.2%
    Fish Tales: 6.8%
    Evel Knievel: 4.8%

About halfway through, Fish Tales was even lower. Then I started telling regulars I was going to take it away, and it has since rebounded a bit.

Just a little bit 'o Flipper Fidelity action - you're right, that machine is like brand new (although it has ~50,000 plays, it's a one-owner / one-location pin) thanks to Alveolus' recent full-blown shop job.

Austin Powers is skewed pretty high because they have a dude who goes in there almost every day and spends $10 on that one game. Can't say I blame him. I played it and thought it was really fun as well.

LOL. Gotta love when you find the person that has just 1 game they obsess over or they have a fun mannerism.

When I was at Logan's in Chi last time there was the "clapper" Guy was constantly clapping to cheer himself on everytime he did anything good. He was quite the character and made me smile pretty big.

The only reason my Judge Dredd makes any money is because one guy pumps about $20 a week into it.

Judge Dredd pays itself off in 1.5 years, everybody.

What's kinda interesting to me is that most of our club players tend to ignore WOZ. Not completely, of course, but it indicates that it gets played mostly by more casual players.

Also interesting is that Cactus Canyon only sees less than 1 in a 100 of the overall games played - even when it was first inserted, there was no "new" coin-drop spike - I'd had thought that, given it's rarity and allure, that it would get more action than it does. To illustrate: Star Trek Pro took 7.85% of the coin drop during it's first 90 days while CC took 1.85% during it's first 90 days. . .

    #36 9 years ago

WoZ is earning but by the time it's paid off, Dr.Who will have paid itself off 4x...

Seems like the smart money is only buying old games!

Speaking of, I am looking for a Doctor Who

    #38 9 years ago

South Park is waaaaaaaay higher than I would have ever expected it to be. I'm shocked at the long list of (great) titles it beat out.

I'm no OP, so I honestly have no idea how well games typically do in a location. Very cool of you to compile everything.

South Park actually looks low from what I've heard. Every serious venue out here has one...that's got to tell you something. Regulars avoid it, but casual players flock to it. Easy to understand. Funny. A theme that resonates with most.

Good stuff, Rush. Thanks for posting!

Just a few questions about Wrestlemania, if you don't mind:

1] Are you happy with how it is performing so far?

2] I know it's early days, but is this typical or atypical for a new game just introduced into the line-up?

3] Do you think it has real staying power?

I am curious about this pin in particular, because a lot of the early reaction on Pinside, especially from collectors, was that the theme was atrocious, and the pin would probably not sell well, because collectors would never buy them for home use.

Personally, I thought the theme was always targeted towards Ops, because it would be pretty popular among the 20-35 year old market segment that frequents arcades and bars. So I am interested in hearing an operator's thoughts, now that the pin is finally out in the wild.

Jackbot in front of Ripleys, JunkYard, The Shadow and Flintstones. Didn't see that one coming.

Funhouse must not be in that arcade. The one here is constantly being played.

Jackbot is just Pinbot, so it's less threatening to new players. Less complicated.

As for South Park, I remember when it first came out - it was a MONSTER earner on location. Gave MM a run for its money. Not surprised it's still up there as well.

I could honestly see another South Park (Reboot) pin in the future. The theme is a known hit and with all the new material South Park has created since 1999, it would be even better.

Seems like the smart money is only buying old games!

Off the cuff it may seem that way, but I think there is more too it than that. . .

Let's say Dr Who is $2,800 typically to purchase (freight included). For commercial operation, I've found that these 20+ year old games *require* a full-blown tear-down shopping (30+ hours), some new parts, I do premium LEDs, often a new DMD, legs, levelers, flippers, etc. Roughly $800 to $1,000 to fully rehab. So, I'm starting out @ $3,800 for Dr Who, but it plays like a dream (that's important). Figure a $2,500 residual value whenever that day comes. So, the real cost of this game is $1,300 ($3,800 - $2,500)

Let's say WOZ is $7,200 (mine was) and requires plug-and-play (and a ton of light boards ). Figure a $5,000 residual when the time comes. The cost of this game is $2,200 ($7,200 - $5,000).

See how these two games are actually a lot closer in cost to operate?

Of the total coin drop into these two games, WOZ gets 64% of coins and Dr Who gets 36%. Let's assume $1,000 was dropped into the two games. WOZ has $640 and Dr Who has $360. WOZ realizes a 29% return on it's $2,200 cost while Dr Who realizes a 28% return on it's $1,300 cost.

Assume $10,000 was dropped on these two games. WOZ gets $6,400 and Dr Who gets $3,600. WOZ gets 2.91x it's cost while Dr Who gets 2.77x it's cost.

Assume the games were now sold after the $10,000 drop. Woz nets $3,800 ($6,400 earnings + $5,000 proceeds - $7,200 purchase price) while Dr Who nets $2,300 ($3,600 + $2,500 - $3,800). It's much easier to make payroll, rent, insurance, etc with $3,800 than it is with $2,300. In other words, from a strictly financial return perspective there could be found an argument that a better return is lurking with some less expensive machines. But consider this: Would your business survive better making a 10% return on $1M or a 50% return on $10,000? There has to be enough cash flow to maintain the business expenses.

There are also the intangibles: People come because WOZ is there and end up playing Dr Who, et al.

    Just some food for thought

Well, that just suggests you don't buy freshly routed older games! Plenty of plug and play games in the $3K-up range.

Based on that idea, that Star Trek Pro is the real winner. Plug and play *and* less than $6K!

    #47 9 years ago

Hmmm. Many of the WOZ bashers posted in the WOZ 4k play thread yet are surprisingly absent here...hmmm, haha.

speaking of which how is your WOZ holding up? any wear areas on the playfield?

    #49 9 years ago

It would seem that any new Pro game would be profitable. If they get played quite a bit for six months to a year, they can be sold for a good percentage of the initial investment. Collectors like the LE's but it would make sense for operators to buy pros.

Thanks for posting this. Very interesting to someone who rarely plays outside my game room.

None but I have nowhere near 4k plays. I'm still going to put mylar down in the pops area and state balloon area. I can't believe JJP didn't spend the extra 15 minutes and $1 to protect those areas.
