    I don't know how you're painting it, whether with a brush, spray paint or an airbrush, but when I was building plastic models, to do soft camouflage, I'd take that stuff like Playdo, make little mounds of it & use it to hold a mask off the plastic & spray the paint from over the mask. A little spray would end up under the mask giving the effect of controlled overspray.
