Rarely. I have definitely bought games that did not live up to my self inflicted hype. Some of my biggest losses (which I measure in percentage of purchase price not total dollars) were on games that ended up being quite valuable later.
Over time, I have sharpened my skills to avoid being caught by fomo or hype. I still win some and lose some.
