Bought two games from a seller in New Jersey, regular E-Bay seller. Got screwed huge. Please PM me before you buy from the RAMSEY, NEW JERSEY guy. I will be glad to relate the story with pics for anyone considering a machine from this area.

#2 5 years ago

Why can't you post how it was you feel you got "screwed" by this guy?

#3 5 years ago

And could you post the seller's eBay handle as well if you're advising people to avoid him?

#4 5 years ago

sorry to hear this , please share

#5 5 years ago

thats near a well known ebay pinball scammer...... any names or initials of the person you can tell us?

#6 5 years ago

I would be more than happy to post the entire story, E-bay ID, and his real name (others have in the past) along with pictures, but the forum rules forbid those type of posts. If you are considering actually buying a game from this area, I will certainly send it to you privately.

#7 5 years ago

OP:

Very good way to go about this. You shouldn't post the gory details on here. Do it PM like you mentioned.

People need to be aware of defamation, etc. OP is protecting himself.

Good call.

#8 5 years ago

I don't see why you can't post how it was you feel you got screwed and then provide more details for those that care to PM you. To be as effective as possible in alerting folks of a potential scammer (before it happens again) without breaking forum rules, you might consider sharing what the scenario and MO of this guy was/is? Putting in Ramsey, NJ and Ebay are a good start for someone looking to do research and find this individual...or is this not allowed?

#9 5 years ago

I'm not a moderator, so maybe I'm reading the rules too narrowly, but I don't see anything that would prohibit posting factual details about a transaction, including the seller's name/eBay ID (physical and email address aren't permitted, of course). The rules prohibit "defamatory" posts but I think a statement has to be false to be defamatory.

Of course the OP is entitled to post as much or as little information as he chooses (consistent with the pinside rules), and the easiest way to avoid further trouble from the seller may be to say little or nothing, even if the seller was in the wrong. It's just that a post like this isn't likely to be spotted by someone considering doing business with this seller in the future -- I would imagine a future buyer searching for the seller's name/eBay ID, but probably not his hometown.

post it... if you are going to bring it up in public, man up and do more than simply infer...

be serious... the possibility of a defamation lawsuit even seeing the light of day based on an internet post is virtually nil... if this was not true, our court system would be doing nothing but processing these types of suits, as the net is LITTERED with posts from people posting unhappy experiences...

#14 5 years ago

Wasn't that guy the lead character in Fight Club?

#15 5 years ago

Let me guess.....eBay ID starts with a B and ends with a J

Dude, PM HIM FOR DETAILS. its easier than posting all the jibber jabber.

If anyone is wondering, Ted does indeed have a 'no' button on his keyboard, it makes his Pinside posting easier!

Uh oh. I bought a game from NJ. Ebay seller barrywnj. I've had it for about a month. I was very unhappy with the conditon of the game when it arrived. For example, his claim of "nice clean circuit boards" turned out to be an WPC-95 board with leaking batteries and corrosion running down the board.

There, I said it ! !

Barry, indeed, seems to be one of those guys you have to visit in person to get a deal.
...there is a thread here with his exploits.

Thanks Ted, I knew that was coming!

I would love to know who this is, as its very close to me

#26 5 years ago

With the clues it took me about 4 minutes to find who it was.

#27 5 years ago

I think seller starts with ty. I recall hearing bad feedback about this seller a while back on rgp.

#28 5 years ago

I am not afraid of a defamation lawsuit, only the forum rules. If the moderator agrees I can post the facts, I am more
than willing to do so. Man up this.

Send PM...you will get ALL the info...

#30 5 years ago

The way I see it, as long as 1) the info is all true and 2) you post the info in a professional manner, I don't see a problem. Do expect it to get locked when you or others can't keep it civilized.

#31 5 years ago

I see no problem telling you it was TZ and TAF. Not cheap games.

#32 5 years ago

I bought a machine from him about 6 years ago. If anyone wants, I could go over and check out a game and play, take pix/videos. (sorry, I'm a bit late with the offer, Imeh)

#33 5 years ago

It's tyler, isn't it? And yeah, definitely not the best way to post something.

I'd be interested in some clarification here. Is there a general policy not to post details about bad transactions (i.e. only "good feedback" is permitted on pinside)? I've read enough warnings/bad reviews to think that it's fine to post unflattering, but factually based, reports on trades/sales. But I've only been using this site for six months so maybe I've got it wrong.

Absolutely last hint!

#38 5 years ago

The info as follows

games were listed separately on E- Bay. I send e-mail through E-Bay to the seller, tyler12201, telling him I was interested in both titles and wanted to see what he would take If I purchased both with shipping. He responded with his phone number. I called and discussed the machines with him and agreed on a price for both with shipping after discussing their condition ect.
He insisted we do it off e-Bay. I offered to pay with a credit card, but he insisted I had to gift it thru Pay-Pal. I now understand why.
He was very reluctant to send additional pictures, and in the end only sent one, a distant shot of the playfield, but in our conversations he was insistent they were in great shape, and I would really be pleased. The pics he had on the ad clearly did NOT show the major damage, and he absolutely deceived me in conversation.
He then offered me a "Gold" kit for TAF for an additional $200. It was fake. Spray painted broken blue plastics off the standard machine. He did agree to refund this later, but didn't. I could go on and on, but I'll let the pics show the real story.

Basically don't go trashing someone's name and/or giving their direct contact info in a mean/spiteful way. I totally agree with this:

Quoted from SealClubber:

From the community rules:
UNLAWFUL, HARASSING, DEFAMATORY, ABUSIVE, THREATENING, HARMFUL, PORNOGRAPHIC, SEXUALLY ORIENTED, RACIALLY OFFENSIVE, PROFANE OR OTHERWISE OBJECTIONABLE MATERIAL IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
All the types of content above break these Community Rules. Please don't post it, or you may find that your account has been closed.

BE CAREFUL WHEN INCLUDING EMAIL ADDRESSES OR INSTANT MESSAGING ADDRESSES IN CONTRIBUTIONS, AND PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE ANYONE ELSE'S PERSONAL DETAILS

You may include your own personal email address or instant messaging address in postings (providing it is acceptable, i.e. not vulgar or offensive), but please be aware that you are potentially opening yourself up to a lot of email, and possibly spam email too, and you should be absolutely sure that you want people to be able to contact you like this. We recommend that you set-up a new email account specifically for people to contact you on if you wish to publicise a contact point. You may prefer to simply use the private messaging facility of the Pinside, called PinsideMail.

It is not acceptable to publicise anyone else's contact details other than your own, and any such instant messaging details, email addresses, postal addresses or telephone numbers will be removed from Postings. However, it is acceptable to include general contact details for companies, for example, but you must only include publicly available details, such as the address of a restaurant, or the email address for customer support for a company.

I hope I didn't violate the rules, and I don't care if you just want to see me as gullable, I just thought people on here deserved to know what they are dealing with. It was to protect someone in the future. My deal is done, lesson learned here.

You might consider reporting this to eBay. As I understand it they don't like people using their service to advertise but then conducting the sale off-line to avoid paying fees. Won't get you your money back but could lead eBay to stop doing business with this seller.

#42 5 years ago

(pictures) - that is hideous.

#43 5 years ago

This seller must have multiple games of the same title. I see he sold several TAFs and TZs in the past, and has another one listed now already. Bait and switch? Don't know.

Even though you Gift through PayPal, if it is connected with a credit card, call them (the credit card company) and they will investigate and possibly refund you.

#46 5 years ago

One picture and PayPal gift should have been a red flag, sorry you got screwed but man I've seen some guys in eBay that take pics at the perfect angles to hide flaws and make something look mint until you see it in person. That's a lot of money to buy something based on one pic.

#47 5 years ago

wow that TAF is thrashed! The seller knew exactly what he was doing....

#48 5 years ago

first this is terrible.

you gifted money, and off ebay!!! red flags and alarms going off everywhere.

Im real sorry this happened to you, but frankly you are lucky to have anything to show for it at all.

people who do that are wide open to scams and receive large boxes full of rocks, garbage etc.. that is if they ever get anything at all.

file a claim with your cc and pp and go from there.

Be sure to save all your communications with him (I'd also recommend doing screen captures of the eBay listing if you haven't already) so you can show those to your credit card co. when they ask for evidence.

#50 5 years ago

pp gift can be REVERSED, via a CC chargeback.

close friend of mine did the same thing, paid off ebay, thousands of dollars for a item he really wanted.
long story short nothing to show for it at all and all funds lost..
