For the last couple of days; I've been doing some work on some pinball button decals for many of the early solidstate games. Specifically as a goal of sprucing up my Early Solid State buttons when back lit by LEDs. It all started when I agreed to give a set of these buttons to a fellow pinsider for his 8ball charity machine.

At first I had some limited yet disappointed success laser etching these buttons with a 8-ball. So I decided to try my hand at Water Slide Decals. The result is I came up with a few designs for many high volume Early solid state games; mainly ones I own or have access to. I'm curious what you guys think of these. Some ground rules:

1) These are an attempt to be inspired by; but not direct copies of game art. Specifically; I don't want the IP owners (you know who they are) coming after me for infringement. As a result; in nearly every case the art is original... drawn by me in CorelDraw. Please don't expect me to copy artwork directly from a game.

2) Whenever possible; I'll er on the side of going generic. IE a "public domain" 8-ball instead of something from the game. A Basket ball instead of a harlem globetrotter. etc. This means you won't see me offering a direct ripoff of the movie artwork for Spiderman.

Anyway; Using IPDB.org as a indication of "volume"; I attempted to render some graphics for many of the higher volume machines. Here's the Decal sheets in JPG for an indication:
8Ball, ST, Strikes and Spares, Black Hole8Ball, ST, Strikes and Spares, Black Hole

HauntedHouse, SpiderManHauntedHouse, SpiderMan

Here's an Example of the 8-ball buttons:

My question is if I made the available in PDF form; would anyone use them?
If I were to offer decals at Pinball-Mods.com/oscom for a nominal price; would anyone buy them?

Neat. Any chance of seeing these installed and backlit? Would be curious to see them in their "natural environment."

Nice work, Zitt!

Still waiting on the 8ball guy to post some pics or videos.

I have not attempted to make every one of these buttons. Is there a specific one you are interested in?

Zitt,
Sorry about the wait on this video, wasn't quite sure on how to post it. Also Labor weekend and a lot of beer drinking caught me off track.

It would require more complex molds and a new product, but could you make the buttons so that they had a snap-on front where a decal or cutout could fit inside? Similar to coin reject buttons?

I don't think anything in my collection would be candidates. I wish you well with the venture, though.

Packie, Thanks. Man... that's some Red there. No worries ... it was a 3day weekend. I'm kinda anxious to see what they look like in the machine.

Winter; yeah - very complex molds. I considered this as an option before; but TBH; I'm not confident something could be engineered to look right. Then there's the VERY expensive mold cost.

Could something like this work where the outer shroud has a couple of tabs with maybe a hole in them that would fit over a smaller, more structurally sound piece that has nubs that snap into the holes of the outer piece? Basically the entire thing would be the size/shape of the current buttons. I agree, it might end up being too costly considering you already had molds made up for the current buttons, but I was just thinking conceptually something like this might work.
