    Sad...

Note, the phrase "commit suicide" has fallen into disfavor, as it implies that ending one's own life is automatically a crime.

There are situations, such as this one, where it is perfectly understandable. And even when it happens as a result of mental illness that could have been treatable, the verb "commit" stigmatizes the victim as well as their survivors.

"Dies by suicide" is far preferable.

... for to change would require an effort.

It's not a new phrase, we just ought to retire the old one, for reasons explained.

    "I don’t like it" is not a valid counter-argument.

    Quoted from Electronmagic:

And 20 years from now someone will will decide to be offended on someone else's behalf by use of the old, thoughtless, and horribly derogatory phrase "Dies by suicide."

So? Make sure you offend people now?

What nonsense. You're just being obdurate.

Not using the word "commit" is kinder than using it. If you have a problem with that, then guess where the problem lies?

    Quoted from Black_Knight:

I’d say most people believe suicide falls in one of these three categories within the definition. So the word is correct, is the traditional use of the phrase, and isn’t pejorative.
You’re not going to change peoples’ minds by lecturing or calling them names.

Say you do believe that... WGAF? It is kinder to not use the word. That's the long and short of it.

Some people have no empathy, I guess. Responding to poorly formed retorts is not lecturing, and where did I call anyone names?

"I don't wanna change, even when something has been explained" is not the argument winner you think it is.

Gee, my original comment has over 3x more upvotes than down ones... I didn't come up with the idea, google it and maybe someone in the mental health field can get through to you.
