Upgrading my TSPP to 5.0, the CPU rom was no issue.
The display ROM - there's 5 different files in the zip and mentioned in the readme, yet only one display ROM.
Each display ROM is 512kb, it's a AMD 27C040 (4Mbit chip) so only one can fit on there.
I've tried burning a few with no luck.
Programmer (DataIO ChipLab) software outputs the same checksum for each file.
Upon opening the ROM it also says "I/O translation error 5026. No data translate from [ROM file]" but then I can see all the hex in the ROM file as normal.

DMD worked fine before when it was on 4.0.
What am I missing?

Each file is for a different language

Quoted from melappels:

Hmm it's not specified in the readme. Which one is English?
More-so, they don't work. I recall in WPC the language is defined by jumpers on CPU perhaps Stern has the same thing?

It looks like the bottom file.

All files verified in PinMame.

Thanks for the pointers, all!
Figured out my issue - usually ROM's import no problem and at the top I can see "STERN PINBALL COPYRIGHT" or something in the alphanumeric code.
When my software imports ROM files, it auto-detects for one of like 20 default formatting types, usually for game ROM's it doesn't detect anything and reverts to "absolute binary".
For the display ROM, it couldn't match any formatting so it imported all zeroes.
I had to manually define it to absolute binary and that was good.
I used HxD to verify what the text should look like where normally it says "STERN PINBALL" or whatever and it was good

stern hardware has it's own display board with it's own rom. not just one rom with WPC.
