Burning ROMS: CFTBL from P-3 (Game) / P-1 (Sound) - Size? Number?

I have a CFTBL with P-3 Game and P-1 Sound ROMs installed. I'd like to upgrade to L-4/L-1 respectively. I have a ROM burner and a selection of blank chips at hand.

Q: Other than looking at the existing chips, is there a web resource or a place in the manual that tells what chips should be or can be used for the new ROMs? (I have quite a few machines I want to upgrade).

Q: Do I need to make 3 separate chips for the sound or just replace the (1) P-1 chip with an L-1?

TY!

Look at the file size of the rom file and then multiply the kilobytes by 8...... So L4 is 512kb, times 8 is 4096kb (or 4mb)... so you would need a 4mb eprom like a 2c040 or 2c4001.

As far as the replacement of other chips, depends on the game. I haven't replaced CFTBL before, but typically, it is usally just the main sound chip. Other titles like DM swear rom utilize several chips.

Thank you for the tips. After some trial-and-error having all to do with the burner, Creech is upgraded to the latest and greatest (which wasn't much of a change). I did have to install 3x L-1 sound chips along with the L-4 (for historical reference).

I'm curious: Is there any reason to make a savefile of P-3/P-1 ROM chips?

Always back up your old binaries. Never know when someone will want them. I upload mine to ipdb.org

Back that stuff up! Those proto ROMs aren't easily available as far as I know.

Roger that on the backup - I'll make copies and send them to the IPDB.
