I just put the screw in and tighten the nut, it draws the screw down into the playfield.

true, I try to install them sooner than later.
As for a forstner bit, it has a centering point that will be ineffective being that there is already hole in the play field. If you take a 3/4 board or even something thinner like a sheet of masonite or plexi(even better) you can then use that as a guide.
