I used sketchup to brainstorm our basement layout as well. Happened to have a weird 16 inch "alcove" in one part of the basement that fits the head of ~4 pinball machines perfectly.
Sketchup has a bit of a learning curve (like everything else) but for being free and web based, it's pretty great. Used it for our son's nursery remodel too (mostly just to visualize how board/batten would look in there.

Can confirm, very happy with our LVT in the basement, which has led us to use it as we gradually redo the flooring in the rest of our house (most of which is the cheapest available and most poorly installed peel-and-stick “flooring” imaginable). We used Smartcore (Lexington Oak) in the basement but have been using their larger Smartcore Ultra XL (Sherwood Oak) in the rest of our house.
I’d love to have nice hardwood but I don’t trust my family and pets enough to take care of it, haha.

Thanks! There’s a ~1mm underlayment between the LVT and the concrete floor, but yeah— directly on the concrete otherwise.
Prior to the LVT it was a really dated plaid pattern of blue, green, and pink 12” tiles.. so i pulled all that up and cleaned up what I could of the tile adhesive. The flex of the LVT does telegraph bumpiness or uneven in the subfloor to some extent, which can be a blessing or a curse. In our case the variations were minor and subtle in the basement so just having the underlayment (and the rubberized underside of the LVT) masked almost all the imperfections.
