On page 29 of the manual, what type of screw or post holds part number 22, metal standoff with groove (530-5035-01) on to the playfield? The previous owner used a regular screw and I can't attach the "DMC lites jackpot" plastic on top of the standoff.

I have no power for my coils on the pop bumpers or slings. Can anyone point me in the right direction? In test all other coils work. The manual says there are individual 2.5 fuses for each of those coils but I’m certainly not seeing them.

Any tips or ideas?

#503 1 year ago

I don't have my machine or manual in front of me, but the fuses for the special solenoids are likely on the PPB (popcorn) board. I'd start there.

Does anyone know the part # to backbox hinges started a restoration about a year ago went to assemble and can't find them anywhere!

#505 1 year ago

Does anyone have a breakdown of how many GI, playfield, and flash lamps there are?

Joining the club this weekend.

Quoted from mcalon:

Another thing that had me thinking is that the manual shows microswitches with some levers as flipper buttons actuator, my machine has normal leaf switches. Also the flippers coils are different than what's written in the manuals. My coils are 5020-30 while manuals say 5020-20.
I am certain that no one replaced coils or switch mechanism. I wonder if anyone else has this conflict and what's the story behind it.

pg.26 Flipper coils are 23-900
pg.55 info is brought over from first game to use S.S.F.B. unedited.
pg.29 playfield parts list flipper item #49/#50 as 500-5177-32/500-5177-31.
Note:
500-5177-31 } 23-900 coil 090-5020-30
500-5177-32 } Solid State No End-Of-Stroke switch

#507 1 year ago

Data East used #6-32 Mach.Thread. or #6 Wood Screw.. depends on application.
Fasteners can have hex head with #6-32 tread on top side.
Sega Manuals list variety of custom fasteners... like 530-5012-02 or 530-5010-02.

Thank you
Do you happen to know what's the story behind leaf switches installed instead of micro switches?

Phantom had micro switches... Sometimes the cabinet micro switches would fail...
Heavy adjusting and bending the actuators made things worse.
A good quality heavy duty micro switch assembly should work fine, if all the connectors
are clean and have a good connection to the driver board.
The leaf switch style with round gold flash contacts workes good too...
But, the contact points would beak off sometimes...the worst are the new style that
Stern has. The tiny spot contacts again, come come off the blade.
D.C. Tungsten contact do not work well with the +5 volt circuitry of the solid state flippers.

I need to order new Rom Chips. Does anyone know what the version differences are?

I see that Matt's Basement Arcade sells 2.0 Game Roms and also a 2.8 version of Game Roms. But I can't find any changelog or version history anywhere of what the difference between roms is.

Does anyone know?

#512 1 year ago

Rom code is country dependent. USA lists has A02-0 B5/C5
Some version are language/coin price default.
BTTF has one big bug. The condition fries the green brights/flashers under the ramp.

I thought I broke the high score, but world score remains. How is this possible? Is this something to do with high score settings?

Has that bug been fixed? This explains why my Green flasher LEDs keep dying!

I'm about to join the OG BTTF club next weekend! This game is clean! Got typical wear at the ball drop. Look at the cabinet! I can't wait!

Anyone got a part number for the rubber/foam pad that should go at the end of this ramp?

Question for BTTF owners- The "Hill Valley" ramp entrance signs and the ball gates at the top of the ramp- are those pieces held on with a self tapping screw, or a nut and bolt? I need that information so I can size the holes correctly. I am pretty sure they are self tapping. DE Manuals of this era are very limited on this kind of info. Sega games really started the era of every nut and bolt being accurately cataloged in the manual.

Also, there is a hole in the bottom of the ramp trough where the "Y" part forks...but I have never seen anything attached to it...does anyone know what it is for? I am wondering if it is an access hole for the pop bumper cap, but the other screw would still be covered up. The hole may have been used for manufacturing purposes, I am guessing...or something was to go there that was deleted before the machine entered production.

Thanks!

My signs look to be nuts and bolts.

As far as the hole, I was thinking it was maybe a possible diverter that they considered. Maybe something like on star trek????
Just my guess

I thought about the diverter as well, but the ball goes the wrong way for that unless they were planning to cut a side out of the ramp and drop it into the pops somehow. Thanks for the info on the bolts! I should be forming a test ramp or two in the next week or so.

#525 1 year ago

Self tapping screw on mine it looks like and the y hole I believe was to help anchor/support the ramp on that hidden pop bumper. Mine is filled in, never used it for that purpose, just guessing. Very exciting to see this ramp possibly be reproduced!!

I don't think so...would probably work but wondering what the original part number is.

Data East didn't get good at assigning part numbers to everything until LAH. I don't think youll find a part number for that..they usually just cut pieces of adheasive backed weather stripping for these parts. There is another piece or two elsewhere on the ramp as well.

I used weather strip foam, same stuff

#531 1 year ago

Mine has self tapping screws as.
I'm good with either.
Also, that hole isn't doing anything, only catching dirt on my game, had me wondering if I'm missing something when I restored the machine.
I don't have photos right now.

Excited about ramp being made.

I think the plan will be to size the holes small for the self threading style screw...you can then open them up with a sharp bit if you want to do the nut and bolt. I will just leave the hole out on the "Y" trough since it seems to serve no purpose as well. I am hoping to do a test pull this weekend. Ill post the results soon!

I can’t seem to get the overhead assembly on the right ramp high enough. Balls seem to hit it often when going for the ramp.

BTTF test pull is done...should be having these on the street in early February once I complete a couple tweaks.

This is awesome to finally see these done.

Jody, do you typically do limited runs or are things "always available" or at least within a few weeks/months? Basically, trying to figure out if I should buy it and put it away or if there's a chance I can just order it in the future - years from now time frame.

I do not do ramp decals...I was able to remove the original decals with freeze spray and they could easily be reused again. Just be careful, they are very thin- unlike the B/W decals. I am lobbying someone to remake them, but it is a long process...so don't plan on seeing them any time soon.

I have yet to "retire" a ramp. My goal is to always have one on the shelf...but sometimes I run out. Usually for ramps, they may be out of stock a month or two at most before I get another batch run again. The exception would be ramps that require a bunch of CNC cutting like Rollergames...I only will be doing one large batch of those a year due to the extended setup time. This ramp is on the easier side to run, so you should be fine. I will probably launch with two batches of 10 initially, then more batches to satisfy any additional demand.

What determines when the red and green lights on the front of the cabinet are lit?

#542 1 year ago
Quoted from crujones4life:

Figured it out red light is lit when non essential switch is stuck/broken/not activated in 50 games and flashes when essential switch is stuck/broken/not activated in 50 games. Green light is lit when cleaning is needed (operator sets number of games to trigger light) and flashes when cleaning is overdue.

glad to see ramp-o-matic made what I couldn't finish on the ramp (sold my game before I could finalize it). Someone was kind enough to share good scans of the ramp decals. PM me if you need them.

Thank You Very Much for the BTTF ramp and your work on it Jody!!!

Now, I will start that massive shop job I've been putting off for way to long.

No 28.5” is the original size. As of a few years ago, no one made them so if you wanted brand new legs you have to settle for 30.5”
