I own both.
Whirlwind is a better layout. There are more shots, flow, and the rules do a really great job of making the player utilize every bit of the playfield. Music is top notch, artwork is light and bright, and it's all around just a fun, easy to understand game for everyone. It has a very similar shot layout to TAF, and my hot take is that it shoots better than TAF.
BSD is dissonant, dark, brooding, unwelcoming, challenging, unforgiving, AND IT'S PERFECT FOR IT. Seriously. BSD won't be fun at parties. Your kids and non-pinball friends won't like it. It's too hard. The rules are unconventional. But it's a player's dream. I see it as a "choose your own adventure" game. Pick and choose how you're going to line up your multiballs and stack them for the best reward. Getting that triple stack is bliss.
There's really no wrong answer here, but I tend to put more time into my BSD than WW these days.
