Having owned both I would say they are probably equally fun to play. However, value wise I think the Williams games are worth more.
Sure, BSD has been rising in price due to it's more recent popularity.
Add into the equation that Gottlieb's get a bad rap (mostly undeserved imo).
SG is a great game, and so is BSD.
I love SG and think it's a great game, and would love to own both one day.
FWIW, I would much rather have BSD. It's just too damn awesome.
And if you look in the 2012 Mr. Pinball guide X-Files sells for $1,650
Quoted from davewtf:if you look on boston pinball, Stargate is more valuable than bsd. nevermind the small sample size
I don't know how many of you have had a chance to play Stargate, but these two games really couldn't be more different. Stargate has 3 Wizard modes and might just be the deepest 90s machine that was ever produced. Who knows how Gottlieb managed to nail the rules like they did for just that one machine, but they did.
On the flip side, BSD is a great game, but it is also one of the shallowest machines of the 90s. Personally, I love that about it -- it's SO straightforward -- but if you like rules, modes and stuff like that, you owe it to yourself to give Stargate a shot.
Quoted from goatdan:Stargate has 3 Wizard modes
What are all the wizard modes? I can't remember?
The sandstorm multiball was the best IMO.
Stargate is a C-list machine made by Got.
BSD is a well regarded B-list game made by B/W and highly suited for competitive play. It's only going to go up in value IMO.
Trading a BSD for a Stargate + $250 is not a trade I would make, but it's not unreasonable.
Trading a BSD + $250 for a Stargate is just crazy.
Quoted from TheLaw:Wow...Although SG may be one of the "deepest games," it also seems to "play worse" than just about any game I've ever played; and I just played it last night.
Was it on route or at someone's house? The game has to be set up correctly and have strong flippers to play well.
last night a home machine...but the flippers were not super strong, which surely didn't help.
But I played it many times brand new when it was released and had the same feeling. I think the entire left side of the PF is too cramped. This was probably the first Gottlieb I had ever played, so maybe they just have a different feel to them...which I never liked.
