Game works fine and this doesn't affect gameplay, but, it does bug me a bit (mostly that I can't figure it out). When the one droptarget in the game (above the pop bumpers for the video mode) is down and the machine tries to make it pop back up, the coil that pushes it back up, goes off 4 times *click click click click*. The droptarget goes up on the first click but it continues to go off anyway. After 4 times, game resumes and plays fine until the next time the droptarget goes up and the coil goes of 4 times. Error at power on was for the switch that tells it if it is up or down, so I replace the switch, same problem. Thinking I've probably got another switch matrix problem, but figured I'd run it by y'all first. (I'm from texas, I get to say y'all)

What's been done to this pin:
homepin board
LEDs
Wolfman
LED Crosses
new opto emitters and receivers throughout

ok, so I did find some interesting stuff. The switch seems to work fine in test mode. it looks like the solenoid is having to fire multiple times before it will hold the plunger up.

found another possibly related issue while I was in test mode. Switch 37 (right return lane) triggers Switch 57 also (castle 3 opto).

so to make sure I understand correctly, the drop target should pull the plunger back into the coil?

derp, nevermind, the switch was just out of position. the plastic tab on the side of the drop target should be actuating the switch, not the metal tab attached to the coil.

Switch matrix issue was a backwards diode on switch 37.

BSD is done. Thanks for the help.
