IDC type connectors were created to save the original manufacturer time (=money) during the assembly process. The downside is they are not as reliable. But, as some people say - remember that the original IDC crimps have lasted this long...
I never use IDC type connectors for replacing these and always go with discrete crimp type contacts.
This can easily turn into a Ford versus Chevy type argument. To everybody, there is a personal preference.
