I put a lawnmower handle through the back window of my SUV. I was driving. Accelerated to quickly and the lawnmower shifted and tapped the rear window. I will never forget the sound. It was a massive explosion and reverberated inside the vehicle. It scared me so shitless that I drove over to the shoulder of the road and nearly put the SUV into the ditch. $900 later it was repaired. I had that vehicle for 10 years. Despite taking the lift gate apart and cleaning up all the busted glass multiple times, you could still hear pieces dancing around inside every time you lifted it. Every once in a while a chunk would find its way out and fall at your feet as you were loading the vehicle. Each piece made me smirk briefly and then the horror of the memory would return.
I used to work as a Zamboni attendant at local hockey arenas. Try cleaning up one of those massive pieces of backboard glass when they shatter. It would take 2 guys, 2 shovels and a bunch of 5-gallon pails at least an hour. You would hear the explosion happen from the staff office on the opposite side of the arena through closed doors.
