Thanks, thought it was local. Not interested in shipping neons.

It's a tank game and although KLOV says it has two-way joysticks I think I remember you could push the sticks towards one another to make your tank stand up and pull them away from one another to go back to moving around. Anyone made a sort of universal control panel for tank games?
Very cool game. I sort of remember it.
Bump, as I’m not sure. Do you have one and it doesn’t work? Seems like it could be repaired if disassembled.
Quoted from ralphwiggum:I haven't seen the "wires as a post" mod before..... If you haven't already addressed this, now would be as good as time as any.[quoted image]
Done. Thanks Ralph.

Alright, clock disassemble begins.
Have two bad boards. Trying to make a good one out of them. Will check for bad tracers, resisters, cracked solder joints, and diodes. I suspect a flaky opto or two. The thing works but when the game is on for a bit the optos exhibit poor behavior.

Quoted from brobra:Should also clean this thing with a distilled water and vinegar solution while I’m here.
No. Vinegar is only used to help neutralize alkaline damage from leaking batteries.

Force flow. Thank you. My bad, and thanks for pointing that out.

Anyone made a sort of universal control panel for tank games?
Quoted from brobra:Do you have one and it doesn’t work?
No, I've always considered making a MAME cabinet with controls for tank games and wondered what was available. For now I guess a video game controller is the easiest solution.
Quoted from brobra:So reflowed a bit. Checked R1 again and got resistance. So we’ll see if she behaves better. I’m going reflow the Optos as well.
So, I got the board and clock assembled back in the game. Running through tests. All optos check out and runs well, for about 5 minutes, lol. Is it the heat that makes this go haywire? At least that’s what I suspect. I’ll remove the bulbs, plug it in for a while and re-run tests. Keeping my fingers crossed.

My test failed; as I sort of expected.
Under heat, optos 3(9), 2(12), 1(3) hold up. 4(6) does not; fails.
Removing a reliable opto from a spare/parts clock board that has worked under heat stress in the same game and clock mech.

I think that has to happen, eventually, but I’m this deep; I’m following through. Tickets to my downfall; come and get’em
Drum roll...
Quoted from ChrisPINk25:using leds?
If this works, that’s the next step. Otherwise it’s Ingo’s board, if available. I think it comes with leds soldered to the board.
Hooked up the new opto. I’m the game. Works cold. Keeping fingers crossed as I give it a few minutes to get hot.
If I fail, which I probably will, it’s most likely off to Ingo’s board.
Victory! Boom!
I may take the risk and toss the incandescent bulbs back in, but I really need order these LEDs which get hard soldered on the board where the lamp sockets are (sold out). I’ll also check the specifications on the bulbs, and see if I can source them locally.
https://pinbits.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=14
Any way, I’ll post another picture when assembled again.
Now on to a more tasteful LED job. I got a citation from a Rainbow-Puking Unicorn Cop in rainbow polkadot leotards (true story); it’s all over the dashboard.
Let’s put some lipstick on this pig and see if we can roll through.
I may take some shit for this opinion, but I actually think the LED job on that Twilight Zone looks good.
Quoted from roffels:I may take some shit for this opinion, but I actually think the LED job on that Twilight Zone looks good.
That’s alright. My main criticism is the sea of blue. I’ll see what I can do. There’s some really powerful strip LEDs near back box, under mini playfield, and maybe in a few other places. My skin is toughened up, so it’s ok if I get ragged on. I don’t think it atrocious, but perhaps could be improved.
Glad we live in America or I’d be locked up, right?!
Alignment was a little tricky, but all is good now; at boot clock resets to midnight
(My favorite number if I’m betting the “don’t”; which is my personal style).
And after a minute or two the clock displays the system’s clock time, as expected.
Still have the incandescents in; sorry Ingo. I’ll be buying your mod anyway, but not today.

The clock worked fined at boot, but the 30 minute opto failed after a few minutes when the clock became hot.
I reflowed the solder on the board a bit. Had a few sketchy connections; but I don’t think this was in play.
I took a known good opto from a spare board (one that posted well after the clock was hot).
That main change did the trick and solved my clock problems.

I suppose so. I’m just exploring playing in my own sandbox. That Sesame Street kid “doing his own thing.”
It’s probably boring for most, but I hope some find it enriching.
I’m not expert tech, but I sure like learning new things and trying to conquer interesting problems; using logic, deductive reasoning, and research.
And I love working on pins.

Dude, you do not need to pacify anyone here. When I was between jobs a couple of times in 2012 & 2015 I spent my days combing C.L. with alerts and everything. I scored majors deals and pissed off many locals. Yes, I flipped machines, but it was never buy on monday and sell by friday. I fixed, shopped, and played the shit out of most of them and sold them months later. Sometimes I bundled machines and made some great package deals for fellow pinsiders. It kept me sane while I was sending out resume's by 8am and chasing a deal by 11am. I love pinball, it made sense for me. Now? I am years past that and I just buy and sell for the hobby end of it. It made me money, it was something I loved, and it kept my household from ever missing a beat. Now I personally own about 15 machines. My sniping skills are still there, but it's for only the titles I personally want. Right now , Fathom & Munsters are on my radar.

I appreciate the words of support. Yeah, I took this opportunity to document a shop day in the life. It’s really for my own sanity and perhaps I’ll look back on it one day, and smile. I may document other days, I don’t know. I’m going to finish this out today and most likely put it bed and go about my other business. Today it’s therapeutic; tomorrow, who knows, I’ll probably shelve it for a while, until something else worthy comes up. I scoured the threads and couldn’t find this particular TZ problem; so maybe someone else will see it and find it useful. Maybe it’s my way of giving back.
Color puke TZ; let’s wash away the blues.
1 image as I found the game, and the super dominant blue LED strips.
close ups of those hideous LEDs.
An image, disconnected the power to those LEDs at J115, I think.

Alright, so it hit the blue, red, and pink colored gi lamps backward from the slings (I think the slings look cool already).
I replaced these all with 1SMD Cool white LEDs. I think it really washed away the blues and frankly, I don’t think plastics need to be color-matched, anyway.
I replugged in the blue underlighting by reconnecting the connector.
Threre’s still quite a bit of blue when the strips are activated, but it’s a nice balance and that part of the playfield is mainly blue anyway.
I wouldn’t say it’s even close to perfect, but it’s a “heckuvalot” better. I could see pushing the spots, but mainly finding alternates color, perhaps white, for the light strips.
The game looks decent to me, so hopefully I can sneak by the color puking unicorn cop in the rainbow polkadot leotard. Heck, I just cleaned the dash.

Pretty decked out game...apparently a good seller and takes care of his shizzle.
Someone grab this before I have to.
I think these guys trade all day and on Sunday over pinside book.
Quoted from brobra:hink these ...trade all day and on Sunday over pinside book.
So speaking of what I like call pinside book.
It’s the mean of the high and low range listed on pinside for a game’s price.
Actually if you use machine search, this book value is shown. Machine search is my quick price hack.
So how exactly is this value calculated, and how frequently is it updated? (Forgive me if there’s a thread on this)
I think the book value calculation is a simple average using all of the price data pinside has collected on reported sales.
I.e. it’s not weighted or biased towards more recent sales.
If that’s true and depending on what we each believe, we probably have very different prices in mind if we were to negotiate a sale or trade.
So, someone who knows, please answer this question for me. I’m dying to know.

Quoted from brobra:Scammer alert.
Someone on Facebook is getting connected with buyers of premium class A games. Sharp scammer, smooth as butter, knows his pins and prices, and gets unsuspecting members to wire him $, then ghosts you.
Please read the how not to get scammed thread, and please buy from reputable pinside members, do your due diligence, and keep your defenses up.
There’s another Craigslist scammer listing free games, and tells you they are on a truck as he was moving. They will try to get you to pay for shipping upfront and just steal like $150-200 per pop, instead of 6-13K.
Here’s the ad for the pinball moving scam.
