I don't have the skillset or equipment to do a full playfield teardown, insert replacement, resurface and clearcoat.
So, I was planning on the following as a minimum viable solution to help project the playfield:
1) clean playfield
2) fill cupped inserts (only) with semi-gloss clearcoat
3) Wax majority of accessible playfield with limited removal of plastics

I'll be doing a lot of reading of Vids playfield restoration, and other related postings over the weekend, but wanted to get any quick feedback if people had any bad experiences, or "watch out for this" kind of advice.

eg. Am I OK to wax over clearcoated inserts?

Some of the cupped inserts are affecting ball play so I wanted to get at them as my next improvements on the machine. Skills are limited in playfield teardown/rebuild and I don't have and never used a spraygun; however I have done some furniture refinishing so comfortable enough to do some experimenting with filling the inserts.

I plan on going very slow on filling the playfield inserts, starting with one or two out of the way stuff first; and will bail if it's not going good. If I wax everything now, then I've got wax on my inserts before I start trying to fill them.... assuming that will cause problems and I'll need to strip it off before filling, so wanted to do the filling first.

Good advice though... maybe I'll poke around and see if I can find a scrap playfield locally to practice on first.

If it's not going well, then we stick with the cupped inserts... sort of a home field advantage to know where you're ball may be affected .
