I haven't tried this yet, but if you've got a flatbed scanner and a willingness to tear off its cover, you may be able to hack it into something like the mythical HP 4600. This guy also wrote a script that joins the separate pictures together afterwards as well.

I can't vouch for its effectiveness, but it might be an option if you're out of other ideas.

Nice, what are you using to do the scanning?

Quoted from TheRingMaster:

Im using an Epson v500 desktop scanner. Good thing it was possible to easily remove the top side/lid for scanning thick objects. Bad thing was it did not operate upside down. It made some really bad sounds like the gears slipping inside. So I had to put the PF on top of it and put some books on the other end to keep it flat. Seems to work anyway. And just to mention I scan at 600dpi and 48bit colors, if it was bits but something 48. Think it will be enough. ^^

Niiiice! I'm glad to see the kind of quality you were able to get from doing it that way. I've got access to plenty of regular desktop scanners but none of them are the Golden Goose HP 4600. There may yet still be hope for producing decals for my Counterforce playfield.
