HI All,
I recently acquired a Bride of Pinbot in average condition. Cabinet has been nicely redone, but the play field and ramps need a work. All is registering and working electrically; except the left flipper. Left flipper switch does not register in switch test mode, all other switches register correctly. The left flipper specific fuse is good, and I have replaced it to be sure. At some point in its life, it has had its flipper mechs updated to use the more modern wpc style; i noticed that on the left flipper the EOS switch isn't engaged when the flipper is extended. This would effect the life of the coil, but doesn't explain why the left flipper cabinet switch does not register.
Any ideas? I am stumped.

Thanks in advance

Here's a circuit diagram from the manual. First thing I would do is check the connectors J109, J102, J110 on the power driver board. Unplug and plug them back in.

Thanks Fatdirk
I have reseated all the connectors. No change. Flippers are still pre-fliprtonics if that wasn't clear.

#4 6 years ago

I realize they're pre fliptronic. I guess I'm not clear - is the flipper itself operating when you press the button?

#5 6 years ago

No. No flipper operation, no switch registration in switch edge test mode. Coil plunger moves freely by hand.

My BOP has a different problem with its left flipper it works but does not register in test mode or change lanes has'nt now for 6 and half years thought your problem might have been the same as mine

Had a better look at this tonight without being exhausted. Exhausted brains do not work properly and this is evidence as such. Re-tested fuses, F101 blown. Replaced fuse, flipper button registers, engages coil and blows fuse. Will get diodes and fuses on the weekend, resolver coil and continue. Suspect bad solder join and blown diode on flipper coil.

Mine's slightly different again, flipper works, registers in test mode but won't lane change on that side, been like that since i've had the machine (6 years)

I would think that the blown fuse is due to a bad diode on the coil. If it was a WPC driver board machine i would also test the TIP36's as a bad diode can cause a transistor to blow but i don't think the System 11's work in the same way.

BOP is WPC, not system 11. Common mistake for BOP and Funhouse, as they still used alphanumeric displays.

Replaced coil diodes (yes correct band direction). New fuse; flipper fires on button press and blow fuse immediately. Ideas? All other functions work

Did you ohm out the coil to see if it's shorted?

#14 6 years ago

No I didn't Travish. Will tonight. It's quite possible with the eos never being engaged due to the wrong pawl on the flipper

your eos switch is missing looking at your pic.

#16 6 years ago

The switch is there. You have the wrong flipper pawl on there. Your flipper is basically backwards and will never close the EOS. When you actuate the flipper with your hand, the switch needs to close when the shaft is pulled fully into the coil. You’ll blow the fuse every time until this is fixed.

#17 6 years ago

I know about the pawl. Stated it's wrong in the first post. Will be replaced with next parts order.

Bingo! Shorted coil. Reading of 1 ohm

Hi there recently rebuilt my BOP flippers and now I have no right flipper power. Each time I hit the button it blows the F102 right flipper fuse. Have swapped coil with similar results. No obvious shorts on the cab wiring. Wondering what to check next. Since there is no FlipTronics board on this wpc wondering what transistors control the right flipper?
Thanks for the assist
Al

Got some help from Atari Jim on the villages bbs thought I would share his tip. Turns out I wired the ground and power wire and fried both coils diodes. Replaced diodes wired correctly and now the Bride is flipping like a teenager again.
Thanks Jim!

“Blue or Gray/Yellow dashed wire goes to the band side of the diode, outside lug and is power

Ground wire goes on opposite side (blue/purp or org)

EOS goes to gnd wire and center lugs.

Ohm the coil diodes and get 5 ohms or higher. 2 or less is bad diode

Ohm the eos cap when switch is open, should get 150 to 180 ohms (this is the hold winding)
If too low, disconnect 1 of the cap leads, check again- if better, cap bad, if same, coil bad or some other short, check your work.”

Make sure that EOS opens when bat extended
