Restoring a BOP. Game is sound, I’m in the tear down stage of restoration. On the fence about the Dutch 2.0 conversion. I’ve read some threads here on pinside. Just want to ask everyone. A) would you do the conversion. B) does the fun factor follow the investment? (is it worth it).
Thanks.

In my opinion, I wouldn't do the upgrade. I'm not too crazy about it and it's pretty expensive.

I’ve only played 2.0 a few times at PATZ and VFW and am certainly drawn to the depth that the conversion opens up. I have considered doing the upgrade (are kits still available?), but haven’t for a variety of reasons (don’t have the funds for the upgrade(!), would rather use funds on another machine if the situation arises, don’t feel completely comfortable with modifying the original (even though it seems reversible), etc.). Based on things I’ve read here, it appears that the upgrade brings value, but I don’t have any direct experience.

Best of luck with the restoration! I look forward to following it if you’re planning to post updates.

BOP 2.0 is simply amazing ! It's so worth it in every way.

#5 6 years ago

Yeah, 2.0 is a lot deeper. Just BOP really isn't that deep.

#6 6 years ago

Yes and yes.

2 games in one...2.0 can be a ball buster, but keeps you coming back to another run on her.

Think about it with the prices of pins lately, you're getting one hell of an upgrade for 2K....color DMD, sound board, CPU, deep rules. The question is not weather to get 2.0 upgrade but to spend another 2k on chrome, new pf and plastics to go with the 2.0.

I'm also in the progress to rebuild my BOP and convert her in 2.0. At the moment i reassemble the new playfield. The reprofaces arrived today.
Hope I finish the project in the next weeks. Cabinet is done with next gen 2.0 decals, new next gen translite and the 2.0 is installed.

I think it's worth the price. Played the game on conventions and at friends home and it keeps me coming back every time the one more game factor.

The upgrade to 2.0 is amazing. That being said, and I have it, it does not mean your game is now worth 4k or more. It's great rules but it's still a pretty bad layout. I wouldn't sell mine for 4k, but it's because I like it too much, not because it's worth more than that. Adding chrome and ugly "new side art" takes away from what the game was visually. BOP stood out because of its distinctive cab. It was different than the black base cans of most Sys 11s that were the previous generation (and it played like a sys 11).
