Greetings,

New member and new to pinball pics to follow. Great thread enjoyed the read. I just replaced lamps with LED's using the cointaker kit. Outstanding results. I am experiencing problems similar to others with the GI under the left targets, middle targets, and the pops. They were working with the incandesant lights and then with LED's. Next time i turned it on only the flashers under the targets worked and they stayed on constantly. Next time all dark. I did the GI illumunation test and the WHT-GRN and WHT-ORN do not produce light. After closer inspection, I noticed heavy solders on several lamps and when I reinstalled the solder may have touched another lamp so I readjusted however, this was after turning the power back on and producing current.

I am not familar with the fuses and understand from the thread that a visual inspection will not suffice and a multimeter must be used?
From the manual I would start in the backbox I think but I heard it mentioned there are fuses unde the PF as well? Another inersting find was all the LED's were 44/555/906(FL)/89(FL). In the pops they are 259 which I have not found anywhere else does that sound right?

Thank you for any assistance.

#1374 10 years ago
Quoted from Thor-NL:

The fuses you have to check are the ones on the power-driver-board.(the big one, lowest board on the right)

Thank you. I have purchased all of those for spares.

#1385 10 years ago
Quoted from aobrien5:

That does not sound right. I think they should be standard 555s.
I was playing last night and during a decent game, I finally locked my 3rd ball to start castle aaaaand nothing. Just locked up and eventually rebooted. Played a couple more games to see if it was just a fluke and just wound up empty and went to bed... I'll have to do it again tonight to make sure it's all ok.

They are 555 I don't know what happened there.

Is it pinball life that making new ramps?

Quoted from IdahoRealtor:

As promised, pics of my BSD after installing the Pinballbulbs.com kit. It also has the Gothic Cross mod, Cliffy set, plastic protectors, Pinball Pro speakers, and chrome back box trim. There are no limits to science!

Great looking BSD!

Quick question, I installed three LED flex lights under the Dracula figure which I assume are supposed to point up to illuminate the figure or does the middle one just point up while the other two face the coffin? The amount of room for each space makes one question the direction.

#1396 10 years ago

Thanks all. I can post a pic tommorow when I get back home. I have orange flipper coils that were standard issue. The arcade has a BSD with the blue. Gameplay is actually more difficult with the high power blue IMHO. Thinking of switching. What y'all have?

#1417 10 years ago

I am just creating problems as I LED this game. the ball is not recognized after going into mystery /mist hole. It looks like the kicker is not working. I guess to start look up the kicker number and try it in the switch test mode? I had the bottom ramp off replacing LED's and it worked fine for a time...

#1420 10 years ago
Quoted from mcclad:

Is the ramp/subway resting underneath the metal plate that the coil is on? if so, that might be preventing the ball from rolling onto the vertical uplift kicker (VUK) and being read by the optos. If it is under the plate it acts kind of like a step and if the ball does not have enough speed it can not roll into the circular hole on the plate. Thats what happened to me.

THANK YOU

I think this is exactly the issue. When I return to where the game is I will look but when I reinstalled the subway I remember looking at that fitment and wondering if it was right. I had a difficult time fitting the subway back after replacing LED's. Is it supposed to be flush with the kicker? This is the same area where the GI is all of a sudden not working also but I don't see were I disconnected a wire.

#1421 10 years ago
Quoted from joe2012:

no there is 3 555's under the left ramp.but you might be able to get at them if you loosen the ramp. joe

What color/type LED look good for the 3 under the ramp?

#1427 9 years ago
Quoted from mcclad:

If you want I can try to post a picture tomorrow of the way that my subway is installed. Once I changed the way that I had originally installed it, I had no problems.

I would really appreciate the photo. I have not had a chance to look at the game as it is not at home right now. I am storing it at my local arcade where it is easier to install LED's and fix certain items. I am very confident this solution is the answer.

Quoted from aobrien5:

That's a good idea. I have purple in that area too, but the purple flex did wash it out, so I put yellow flex in there.

Does anything need to come off before I remove the left ramp?

#1428 9 years ago
Quoted from Thor-NL:

I have frosted purple CoinTakers. Doesn't wash out the decal print but acentuates it, imho

I have the purple just before that area under the left middle targets. I will give it a try.

#1441 9 years ago
Quoted from mcclad:

Here is how I believe the subway should rest on top of the plate for the up kicker. I had it underneath it and the ball would not move into position to be shot up onto the playfield. Since I changed it I have not had any problems.

That was exactly the issue. THANK YOU!

I should have been paying attention. If I could only find the issue with my GI lights. I will keep at it.

Nice collection.

Quoted from mcclad:

What is wrong with the GI lights?

I posted earlier where the left bank, pops, and middle bank GI are out after installing LED's. The flashers in the middle of each bank flash as the castle lock is lit. Fuse 106 (12 A) is fine. Must be a wire loose or cold solder??

#1459 9 years ago
Quoted from aobrien5:

If you shorted something when installing the LEDs and blew the fuse, you may have blown all the bulbs. I did the same thing in the same location. Move one of the LEDs to another location to make sure it's not the bulb.

I have tried that as well. I did not blow the fuse and the original 106 12A still tests fine with MM. For a short time after the LED install that section worked fine.

#1461 9 years ago
Quoted from aobrien5:

Sounds like a loose wire then. Find the last bulb on the strand and start tracing. Luckily that's a pretty small set of bulbs.

Thanks again. Following the wires is a difficult task for me but I think the last one on that chain is located at the middle target bank. I'll start from there and work backwards.

The black nickel trim is very nice. There is a guy near me who did the gun on my Shadow with black nickel but claims he is no longer is doing trim. Does anyone know who does plating this color? That just looks perfect on Dracula.

#1496 9 years ago
Quoted from mcclad:

I love it when I can't leave well enough alone. I was checking my flashers to see which ones were not working and which ones were. I was going to start with the three 906 bulbs in the lower part of the speaker panel. I removed the circuit board and then replaced the bulbs. I turned on the machine to go into a test to see if they would work. I realized that I had not plugged the connector onto the board and as I did, I heard a click on the playfield and smelled something electrical burning. Just a slight smell but enough of it to tell me that I just F'd up something on the machine that I worked so hard to get running, which it was. Now when I turn on the machine there is a buzzing coming from the coffin multiball ramp and it moves up a fraction and the drops down. It kind of just flutters. Not much movement. There is only one plug going to that flasher board and when I plugged it back in it went the same way on as it was before. I can not see right now how it would be related unless I fried something on the driver board. In a solenoid test for the coffin ramp, it does no go up at all. Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you guys are my only hope.

I replaced the same flashers not long ago without incident. I did everything with the game off however. Have you had any success? Any error messages?

Nice looking toppers.

Any news on the ramps from Pinballinc?

#1584 9 years ago

I brought my BSD home and the DMD started randomly cycling through screens. It is constant but does not affect gameplay. I ran a display test and got:

Page error B(1) 07

Anybody have any experience with this issue?

I should have but didn't. I will and that may be a factor, we had to solder one of the Love Never Dies flasher connectors due to it snapping of the board when installing LEDs.

Thank you.

Just a quick report of the mist problems (magnet unload error and swith #82 errors) fixed by following advice of others (sorry I forgot who, back on pgs. 5,6,7). I reset the game by changing batteries with the game off. No issues for several games. Also, hooked up a powered polk 10" sub in parallel with the cabinet speakers that is shared with Shadow. Big thanks to all who post advice it is much appreciated.

Next I would like to follow others suggestions in replacing plastics, ramps, and black nickel trim if we can generate enough interest for Z plating or someone to do a run.

I really enjoy this game( along with the Shadow) as well or better than anything I have played and considered clearcoating the PF. I guess I am just hoping the diamond plating will last for years to come but I don't know.

Great job from Homepin on the 24 opto board it fixed ALL OF MY ISSUES WITH MIST PERIOD! I am amazed.

Has anyone evey experienced cabinets the are cracking? I was underneath running sub wires and noticed this.

I need to fill with wood putty to keep from getting worse I guess. It is wierd because the rest of the cabinet is in great shape and it has not been wet??

Quoted from aobrien5:

You probably want to fill it with glue, not putty. I'd make a general post about that.

You are right I am not great at this forum thing.

After seeing Bryan's BSD I think I have my answer but I'll throw this out there anyway. I'm currently trying to figure out how to finish my BSD. I have a poll up that I'll link below, I'm looking for any and all opinions. The options on the poll are Red Powder Coat, Black Nickel, Chrome, and Other. Any votes and suggestions are appreciated!

I have been looking for someone to do black nickel. Do you have a source?

#1728 9 years ago
Quoted from Glarrownage:

I plan on sending all my stuff to Mike Chestnut. He does amazing work!

He does not do black nickel trim pieces. He is not far from me and did all the wireforms, ramps, and gun on my Shadow.

Quoted from EZG:

I just picked up a set of the pinbits ramp flaps and they're a lighter color then the originals. If anyone has those installed, I'd appreciate a pic or two to see how they look in the game. Thanks!

Are the ramp flaps specific to BSD? I could not find the game on the pinbits site.
