I need some help BSD owners. Long post ahead, I will try to keep it quick.

Decided to replace all lights on BSD and add the LED's to the speaker box. First added backbox and speaker mod and played a few games.

Next raised the playfield and replaced most inserts and played a few games. Next took off the castle ramp all the way around and replaced some GI lights then finished with raising the playfield and replacing more GI and flashers.

I think this is where the problem occurred as I heard all of the switches go off while the playfield was in the air. I finished replacing the bulbs and put the playfield down and had a message to check J114 and J115 Fuse. J114 was blown and I replaced it.

When powered on I got a ground closed message for ROW 4. Row 4 includes the plumb tilt, the launch button, castle lock opto and ramp, and trough balls. I double checked all of those things to no success.

I unplugged the speaker mod cable(which was no issue before) and the Ground error went away but then as I was testing switches all was good but it would not load the balls so I still think there is an issue and then it went haywire and now it will not let me enter the diagnostic mode when powered on. It just goes shows that bookkeeping totals have cleared.

Any suggestion of where to look now. Sorry for the long post.

So I am getting better at this game but am having a really hard time with outlane drains. Does anyone have any tips on how to prevent or keep the ball from draining in the outlanes. Any shots to avoid? My drains are not necessarily bouncing around the inlane and outlane where a nudge can help but instead a straight to the outlane.

I generally can stack 2 multiballs and have been getting games in the 400 million but then just straight to the outlane.

Any tips?

I installed a Pinsound Board/stereo kit in my BSD over the weekend with hazzard s sound/music re-orchestration. I tell ya...the re-orchestration just about blew my balls off! A MUST have add on. Its that good.

This is great. Where did you get the pinsound kit and how did you install the new sounds?

#6390 1 year ago
Quoted from hAbO:

Its a replacement sound board that can be had at Pinsound.org You can use it as a direct replacement for your sound board and/or add additional sound packs if available. They have a niche since they are the only ones that make a replacement sound board for WPC89 games like FT, BSD, TZ etc. You can also use their wiring harness to rewired your cabinets for STEREO. The newer version available also unzips the sound files much faster than the predecessor pcb. Its basically a drag and drop to a USB and install it in the board. 15 min later your in business. The board also allows for fine tuning the base, mid, and treble throughout. Its really one of the more bang for you bucks out there in terms of mods.
There is only 1 re re-orchestration for BSD but fortunately, hazzard made it kick ass with original sound track and voices as you can see above. Dial in the base and turn it up.

This is great info. Thank you. Did you have to upgrade the speakers or install a subwoofer? Or just get the new board?

#6391 1 year ago

Also, it looks like pinsound is on backorder. Are there any other pinball distributors that carry the pinsound board. Did you order yours from pinsound and wait or did you order from somewhere else?

#6393 1 year ago

Thank you for the graphic, that answers my question.

Another question, I see that K's arcade has this in stock. They charge an additional $60 to install the sound for the game. Can I just buy the base pinsound board for my machine and load the Hazard orchestration and save myself the additional $60 bucks.

Thank you

A few more notes on PinSound, first just install it yourself smcclain65; notes above from habo are great.
If you want a sub hook up then use the RCA jacks on the pinsound board to your external sub, a 10-12 foot RCA cord works well to the popular Polk subs.
The pinsound upgrade does not NEED the upgraded speakers to work, however, getting the 2.1 speaker cable is a great idea as you will most likely want the stereo setup after you hear the mix. You can buy cheaper speakers that will do the job, I just bought 3 speakers for my BSD from parts-express for $45 total. Not sure how they will perform yet as I just ordered yesterday.
Lastly, I am working on a revised pinsound mix. The base is Hazzard’s superb mix with some great work from davebart5. This will take some time as I know how long LOTR took for me, hopefully not as long for BSD. When I am finished I will share and update here. Big fan of pinsound.

Great. Thanks for the info, on the ordering the base pinsound. I can do that right, and then just use a USB stick and install the orchestration and save myself the extra $60? Are there instructions on how to install that?

Does anyone have any pics of the legs and lockdown bar plated. And the exact color, I have a powder coating place near me and just need to know the color used.

#6429 1 year ago
Quoted from tktlwyr:

These were stainless from the factory and not plated.

I'm sorry, my question might not have been clear. I was referring to anyone who had them powdercoated red as a mod, as that will most likely be my next mod. I knew there was no red option from the factory.

#6455 1 year ago

Does anyone have the art blades installed. If so can I get a pic.

Quoted from tktlwyr:

Each time you hit the skill shot, you are credited with both a Coffin ramp shot (if it's not already open) and a werewolf V-I-D-E-O letter. This is not a game malfunction.
As for the fuses, locked on coils, etc, power for the coils and power for the sound are on different circuits and are probably not related.

I have had this game for about a year and did not know you get credit for the ramp shot for a skill shot. That makes the skill shot that more important. I have been just disregarding the skill shot because the points are pretty small when your going for a billion or so.

#6812 10 months ago
Quoted from tktlwyr:

I've got some friends who are top ranked players who weren't even a way of this until I showed them. Why only going for a billion?

Haha, thats funny. I am going for a billion because I close to getting it, then going higher.

Quoted from NPO:

Some people should go watch Bowen's tutorial on this game on YT. Lots of good stuff there.

Is this the one from papaTV, if so I have watched that quite a few times. But he just mentions the points in the skill shot not getting a letter and ramp shot.

So today we had been playing Dracula for a few hours. And while we were just sitting there talking pinball it went ball search and the DMD shows two verticle lines and that is it. Has anyone seen this. The game will start although the DMD only show two lines and the flippers are dead. Does this mean the DMD is dead? Would the DMD going dead make the flippers not respond?

And purchased The SoF glass was a huge upgrade IMO, and my BSD has had a burn hole on Dracs face that I'm glad I'll finally remedy.

When you get this installed can you provide a pic? I really like this, although my translite is in great shape.

Has anyone put a rubber gromet or foam pad on the castle return ramp by the right flipper. The ball returns way too fast on my machine and when you get in a rhythm hitting the left ramp it starts to create airballs up the ramp on the second and third shot.

I was thinking like a foam pad kind of like on Elvira and the Party monsters or a rubber gromet like on most new sterns to slow hte ball down before dropping in the hole to the flipper.

Does anyone have a link? I figure one of the craft shops will have something but wanted to see what others have used. I even though about a felt furniture pad that you put on bottom of furniture legs.

Has anyone added a universal shaker motor? If so what option did you set it too, and is it worth it. I was thinking the pinball life universal shaker, it says you can set it to up to 16 triggers.

Quoted from noob-a-tron:

Asked a mate to help with a BSD i just bought that was in decent shape just real dirty. I enjoy playing he enjoys tinkering so at the end of all of this I added a Pinsound board with a shaker and love it. Will post the Thread up and was thinking of adding a Lighted speaker panel but worried it would reflect to much on the glass and make pinball play harder. Also any mods or ideas that i may be missing advice would be appreciated as i do love this game. Here is his Thread.

I have the lighted speaker panel in blue and I don't think it adds any reflection at all. But I do have the laserific topper and it does reflect pretty bad in certain colors.

I think my next mods will be pinsound and shaker, and color DMD then I am done with my BSD. Birthdays, valentines day and anniversary are too far apart.

Quoted from noob-a-tron:

Ok good to know on the topper mate cheers. On the speaker panel will get it lighted. I just bought this as a replacement as my current one has a few nicks and scratches that bother me.

Nice. I looked through your entire last post and am motivated to do a full break down of my BSD when I have the time. The mods I am going to do are color DMD, shaker, and pinsound. Then its done.

Anyone see balls either make it over the castle lock post or another ball push a locked one over? I do not see any way of raising the lock post. Any suggestions much appreciated. Love this pin!

I think your ramp needs to be tightened down right by the lock for the castle ramp, there is a nut to the left of the lock and it its not tight your ball can roll over the lock because the ramp is higher. just had this issue last week after a full breakdown and cleaning of the playfield.

Totally agree on the village, looks cheesy as, even custom painted. I want to work on something different there. not 100% decided yet. Keen to see if anyone has done something different.
The castle looks pretty cool if you underlight it., the snow glows.
And the cheech and chong drac has to go! There are some nice alternatives around.

I just ordered some of these to cover the switches. Medisynl makes them and sells them through pinside.

Quoted from Ballsofsteel:

don't touch that with a 10 foot pole. i ordered and paid for it, 3 months later nothing received and it was a kit to be soldered by the purchaser. he did give me a refund though.
just send the opto board in for repairs to chris hibler, costs maybe $50 and worth it.

I got the brand new opto boards from pinball life and they are direct plug and play replacement. But Chris hibler would probably be cheaper. Just send both and he can reflow the other one too.
