Greetings !

New BSD owner and my very first pinball so very excited on both counts !

Purchased from a guy who had owned it for 20 years with HUO who wanted a more sedate version for his grandkids, but before that it was obviously used in our local arcade franchise as it still has the arcade tagging, coin box etc

I'm about half way through all the posts on this thread and can see it's a great community of support and some awesome mods !! ....the mod wish list is definitely getting long ! Leds will be a priority and also doing something with ol' Ron in the box eventually !! would love to keep it stock and enjoy as is but is such a cool theme it begs to be updated a little. Love what some of you guys have done on here

What a fantastic game and introduction to pinball ownership, I can honestly say I will be keeping this machine for as long as I physically can...can see why people keep coming back to it !

A couple of quick queries; can someone advise what size post this should be left at the castle gate ? looks like this one has been replaced as a longer version at some stage and whole castle is not sitting level

And I have seen on a couple of photos and videos there is a post that seems to go in the backboard near the graveyard ?? - there is a hole hear at the moment...no balls go to that area just wondering what it would have been for ?

Cheers and thankyou for the welcome to my home !!

Quoted from Billc479:

The post on the backboard was to keep balls from getting stuck up there. I'm away from my Drac, so I can't help you with the other questions.

Ah cool...makes sense..cheers

Great mod from Morpheus all the way to Australia !!

Quoted from Zee:

Since my coffin plastic has heat damage from stuck-on flashlamps, I opted to paint it with 2 shades of "granite" spray paint. I did the same to Morpheus' tombstone mod.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

that is brilliant !! I've been thinking about how to tie in the castle and buildings with a updated paint system/re paint etc like others have modded on here and to then tie into the coffin like this is perfect !! Well done !!

#8139 2 years ago
Quoted from Pinkitten:

Where did you find your Morpheus tombstone cover? Looks great.

Send Morpheus a DM....he is quick to respond, quick transaction and shipping

Shipping was also a consideration especially as I'm in Australia but you're buying a one off specific mod that isn't available elsewhere, so I put this mod above my other wish list mods...definitely worth the cost

Cheers

#8141 2 years ago
Quoted from Zee:

Thank you, I'm glad you like it. Some of the more elaborate coffin mods look great, but I'm a Cheap Bastard (TM).
If you are going to do this, be sure to get the matte finish clear coat to keep the texture in place.

haha !! I'm with you !! noted !

Wondering if anyone has sourced lightning flipper bats in blue ? Can only find official lightning bats in white, red, black, yellow ??

So, would assume they are/were not made in blue ....but are there copy ones out there ? Want to keep to the lightning size, and keen on light blue

Newbie question, is there a list of all cabinet bolt sizes on the net for this Williams cabinet?

...have searched the forum and not sure if I'm looking at the right info ! Plus not being imperial savvy is confusing

Looking at replacing all of mine that are a bit rusty rather than removing, prepping and painting !

#8263 2 years ago

legs bolts are all sorted, the main cabinet...from what I can tell there are a couple of different sizes

#8265 2 years ago
Quoted from dr_nybble:

You can find all parts in the parts list: https://www.ipdb.org/files/3072/Williams_1993_Bram_Stoker_s_Dracula_Parts_List.txt
In this case, the bolts are under the cabinet assembly which is at line 2362. Search for 'blt' and you will find them all.
The main ones you'll want are:
4320-01123-20B for the coin door
4322-01139-12B for the hinge
4322-01123-20B for the playfield bracket
You probably also want some nuts: 4420-01141-00

Fantastic! Thank you !!

Ramp and Chute Decals

Are there hi-res versions of the ramp decals kicking around ?

I remember seeing a post on here someone had made a version of this decal for the outside of the right chute (downloaded a copy at the time - can't find who's post it was otherwise would give a shout out !)

...keen to do the same (plan is to reverse print this section only if there's a decent version around...don't need the full set of decals just yet)

Quick search hasn't come up with anything solid

Quoted from Pinkitten:

I’m not sure who created all the different pieces, but Medisinyl did the tombstone cover on mine (and a different coffin, but I haven’t installed it yet). The other mods were already on my BSD when I bought it. The other tombstone cover, depicted in this pic, is from Morpheus, I believe. It’s another very nice option. I would try sending a message to each and inquire if they have any available. I found both of them to be super helpful.[quoted image]

Medisinyl isnt running the switch covers anymore ...maybe if we get a bulk order he may run again one day??? !! would love that mod !!

Morpheus is still doing the tombstone cover it is quality stuff !

Dont forget your Mezel Mods lamps too !!

Quoted from Mr_Outlane:

What is the best way to touch up the red in the cabinet decals. I don't want to have to lay the cab down on it's side as I don't trust doing this without pulling the playfield out. And I'd rather not pull the playfield out. I'm assuming Acrylic paint pens are the way to go as opposed to Sharpies?
Thanks

I'm currently undertaking this exercise now ! Have started to use these pens:

https://www.posca.com/en/product/pc-3m/

I've chosen the dark red version, also tested the normal red but seems a little too light

I'm not 100% convinced I'm sold on using these at the moment ...from a distance they look fine but up close there are streaks in the dark red and are noticeable. I haven't tackled the main Dracula logo part yet....this is because the dark red pen doesn't seem to be available in the larger tip version of the Posca pens (7M). So not sure how I'll tackle this part

My machine isn't in collectors condition so maybe I'm expecting too much...as has been noted here before it doesn't affect the playing of the game but still, is nice to have nice looking things ! So I have figured this will do until I decide to replace decals later on

Quoted from Mr_Outlane:

Thanks!
It looks like I may have to attempt the old Frisket film and airbrush technique! It's a lot of work to carefully cut out the Frisket film around everything you want red, but it'll yield great results with Createx air brush paint once you match up the red which should be easy to do. I can also do it with pin standing up. Then, after it dries, you hit it with a coat of Createx transparent base for protection (paint without the pigment)
I may do the small print with your method and save the large print for the air brush! Or just use small paint brushes with the Createx paint.
This will be a good winter project if I get bored enough!

that sounds like the way to go, definitely post up the results

and yes, the lettering comes out ok with the pens !

Just completed a full led and rubber change out...wow !! what a experience !!! .... I hope it's a while before I have to do that again !

Rookie mistake, changing leds and one of the first wedge sockets I ended up snapping the socket off this board trying to get the lamp in

I attempted to solder it back on but with limited soldering skills I don't think I have done a good enough job as now the centre and bottom lamp are not working (upper one is fine - as snapshot) - assume I've cooked the circuit to the centre and bottom lights ??

Can anyone confirm what this lamp/switch circuit board this is called ?? - I'm a bit lost looking in the manual for a part number. Then begs the question are these replaceable ? or should I be looking to try and repair my dodgy handy work by a professional if I have killed the circuit?

*borrowed pic of underside from the net for location (at work so unable to take pic of own machine) top pic mine showing the two lights out...

Shaming myself as everything else is working perfectly (and surprisingly !!) after 3 weekends on just changing the leds and rubbers ! You guys who do full shop outs are legends !!!!

Thanks again guys, gotta love this community!

Another newbie question

is this a 12v led strip or 6v ?

Cheers

loveneverdies_led strip (resized).JPGloveneverdies_led strip (resized).JPG
#8623 2 years ago

yeah....I would have thought 12v as they are flashers, but agree it's on the playfield circuit....

if you go by this they are same as the rest of the flashers which are 12v ??

#8625 2 years ago

Random question...are there any current euro based BSD members who have used PU-parts.com for supplies ?

Are these guys good for service ?

I'm looking at getting some colored screws but these guys wont ship to Oz (can get the nuts here but not the longer screws they have)

So they have suggested using a forward posting service in Germany but that service is coming out waaaaaay over the top by the time it's posted all the way down under

...thinking if there's anyone willing to pass this parcel on I'll gladly pay them for the service (literally about 30 nuts/screws so should be a smallish parcel - no legs or lockdown bars !! ) and lucky if i'll crack the 30euro in value so minimal risk if it all goes pear shaped !

Cheers

https://pinballhaus.com/product/anodised-nylock-nuts-with-flange/
The nuts don't look as good because the plastic lock inserts are white but at least they are available in Australia. Pinball Haus are also great to deal with as well!

Cheers, yep already bought what Babak had available - bought nuts and the screws, he only has blue and red but are awesome as well - have used a couple !

..I'm liking the light blue to match the plastic on this euro site plus they have purple

#8629 2 years ago

I use this forum a lot for reference so thought I'd post some pics a of my led install, titan rubbers, pin2dmd and paint pen graphic fill in...in case others are inspired !

Was in two minds on changing some of these items especially the dmd but wow...it now brings the game to whole new dimension !!

Titan rubbers are the way to go as well !

Leds, plenty to experiment there and will no doubt try a few other things..currently upper spotlight is off, it takes away from the dmd so will re route that somewhere

Filling the graphic back in red I tried a couple of different pens and settled on a Pentel version, its not 100% but looks good

Also changed the legs to black as the old ones were pretty rusty..not OG but sets off the cabinet well I think

Will attempt to upload some video as well

Cheers

Quoted from Elicash:

Thanks for sharing. The cab does look great with the paint pen touch up. I am curious - does it have a different gloss level? Is it durable? Or did you have to seal it down with some kind of clear spray?
I have thought about doing this, but I guess I am just afraid it will *look* like I painted / touched it up.

Haven't sealed it as it seems to pretty stable..obviously very close up it's noticeable its a touch up job. I have a few other scratches so eventually I may do new decals. If you're after a easy solution paint pens certainly look the part, otherwise as others have done on here they have air sprayed which looks very good

Speaker question;

Currently I have the original speakers in my machine and appear to work fine which is great
My question is - is there a major benefit swapping these out to newer speakers ? Will it be a noticeable difference in sound ? I'm sure there's home stereos out there with speakers 50+ years old that sound also just fine !

I'm not sure I can justify dropping big $$ on specific pinball sets ie like pinsound speakers (not the pinsound board, just speakers) but do know from research these seem to be to go to sets for most pinheads (plus shipping to Australia get's crazy)

Will a cheaper car audio set up (2x5" and sub) give a better output than the 30 year old ones in there now ? Am also interested in getting a lighted speaker kit eventually so prepping for that as well with what I do

Are these a straight swap out ? I note there is a capacitor on the tweeter (apologies if that's a noobie question !) And does the tweeter cutout need enlarging ?

Cheers

How did you modify the launch button with the gargoyle face? Looks nice.
Thanks and best regards

try this post (if i have pasted correctly)

launch ball button comes apart quite easily, print on normal paper and add filter if needed....great little mod !

Quoted from KJS:

Thank you! I still cant work out how to put my 2 rethemes into my collection either..
Anyway I've had alot of requests for my Launch button idea from overseas and the art so here it is. Use it till your heart is content.
Pinside wont let me see email adresses in pm's. Its not worth posting a launch button around the world.
I dont know who the original artist is but it was given to me from one of the biggest copycats in the hobby so as far as I am concerned it is free for all.
I also made a coin reject as well and custom coil wrappers.

Has anyone thought of a mod that would light when there's two balls in castle lock ?

The coffin lock lights are great for reference (especially the Mezel Mod torches !) how cool would it be to see the castle eyes light up or similar on each ball lock ?

Would this be difficult as there's no physical notification in the game (apart from the dmd) ? Or is this part of a standard pinball thing, there's a certain element of having to remember the state of play ?

Help please !!

Any idea where these two green wires are to be located ?

Centre targets have stopped working (lights all ok, just the target recognition) so suspect it's these wires that have come off....bit of solder on the one side

Do they affix to this bank ??

Cheers

Quoted from CoolCatPinball:

If you havnt figured out yet, I can have a look at my machine this evening when I get home from work.

That would be great, thankyou!

Quoted from CoolCatPinball:

Here you go. Hope this helps. They do indeed attach to the right leaf switch.

Brilliant !! Funny how the legacy bend of a wire kind of gives you the clues where it's supposed to be !!

That's perfect...thank you !

I am looking at putting in some upgraded 5.25" speakers in my BSD and also will add some diy led lights

Do I need to open up the smaller speaker cutout in the timber base board to match the larger speaker ?? - so that the led lighting effect is constant each side ? ?

- ie before if unscrew the old speakers, underneath are these are they two different sized circular openings ?

TIA

#9301 1 year ago

Ah, good points on sound quality!

Suppose its more to get some speccy lights on there for effect ! I like a good speaker light upgrade when you see them done right

Noted though !

Quoted from Jodannar:

Where did you get the stone ramp decal for the outside of the ramp?

There was someone on this forum producing them a while ago but is no longer selling them so I sussed out a version myself...PM me and I'll send you the pdf (if I can still find it !)

Mine's not a decal sticker yet but will sort later (currently just printed on paper)

thought I'd try the vinyl wrap exercise to gauge if I want to eventually powder coat rails, lock bar and coin door etc

quite a simple process and only a couple of dodgy mistakes that aren't too noticeable !

not sure how it will hold up or if I want to lose the chrome for ever....but for $25 it was worth a go

Stunning peoples !! ...some very sexy looking black powder coating there !!

Quick question, removing the door inner workings/harness etc, simple enough task ?

#10224 11 months ago
Quoted from crazypinballguy:

Wow! .. I'm planning that same experiment before I go for powder coating. I just bought gloss black vinyl wrap off of Amazon for $18.
I hope mine comes out even close to yours. Your wrap job looks great! .. Any tips or recommendations?

I followed some tips in this link;

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/vinyl-wrap-lockdown-bar-rails-etc

Definitely use a heat gun and don't be afraid to give it some heat...the first corner I was hesitant and it didn't stretch so got a few creases, the second one was a lot better once I worked out it's limits and was easy to stretch. I have a spare piece that I kept as a back up

Where did you get these guys?
[quoted image]

I sourced mine from here

https://www.printablescenery.com/product/impaled-skeletons/

picture hanging hook cut and bent out for the base

the idea is that they match the dmd graphic when the ball drains !

Quoted from Moomert1:

Yeah...they make the ruin walls also. Luckily the ones I found are the same size as yours. Luckily I was able to save a few bucks.

your ruin walls look awesome !

I tried doing similar with a church gate but couldn't get it to work...yours looks spot on !!

Quoted from Cariba:

Thanks all for the info and suggestions, like I said new BSD owner, so I'm gonna have lots of questions, even though I read all the posts in this thread, and know a ton.
Anyone have or know where I can buy decal for the back/left side of the right ramp?
As well, I know there is link here for he back PF decal artwork (where the moon is), but anyone have means to print it on proper decal paper or know what paper I can print it on? I assume you need a special printer too?[quoted image][quoted image]

send me a dm, i have my version of it on pdf and i'll send it to you..not quite as good as the original as i was chasing one a while ago too

here's my graveyard....simple led strip inserted, connected to a gi

the way the plastic is molded it gives off the dripping effect

Quoted from allsportdvd:

How do you get a led strip in there? There’s only 1 small hole. Is it a green one too?

i think from memory i cut a new access hole in as i had it removed doing the rubbers etc, only cut enough to feed the strip in and it pretty much stayed in position due to the molding inside

...and it's a clear strip - the plastic is green so was a fluke it ended up looking the way it does !

Quoted from Zee:

If you remove the graveyard, you will see a large hole in the bottom of it. Stuff your sticky-back LED strips in there and try to get them to go where you want them. Then reassemble the graveyard to the ramp and reinstall. Sorry I don't have a photo of the bottom.

same here...stuffed it in and let it find it's own position ! no pics unfortunately either
