Hey All -

I know this has been covered a zillion times, but hoping for some very pointed guidance for the mist issue I'm having. In test, I'm getting a magnet load and power issue. It seems the opto on the left is registering in test, but the 'hold' opto on the right (opto transmitter?) is not working. In short, upon game start up, the ball keeps launching into the magnet ball hold area. It stays there for about 5 seconds until the ball gate opens and releases the ball. This continues to cycle over and over again.

I read a lot about the homepin board replacement, but maybe my transmitter opto is just not working? I looked through the front of my camera and saw a 'blue light' emit from it when the game was on, then fade out when the game is turned off.

Any advice is appreciated!

You should be able to run your hand (from the coin door towards the ramp entrances) back and forth each direction and hear an audible beep of the opto beam being broken over and over again.

No opto is triggering in the middle of the playfield. The only opto that is registering is the left opto where the ball ends after Mist. The cross playfield opto, as well as the ‘hold’ opto on the right is not working in test.

Based on research, it seems it could be the opto itself, or I need to replace some components on the ‘small’ board, or replace the big opto board with the HomePin replacement... hmm.

It could be that the emitter (transmitter...the one with the purple light) and receiver on the other side of the PF are not properly lined up. Trust me, it can happen. I loosened my receiver and moved it side to side with someone else swiping their hand across the PF, and eventually, I got them lined up. One or two others here have reported the ball being continuously launched into the mist holding gate, only to be dropped out 5 seconds later and found that misalignment of the opto transmitter and receiver was their sole problem.
Most of the time, if the board is bad, it is because the L1 (inductor) component on the board has failed or the soldering joints have failed.
All that being said, if you experiment with realigning the optos to no avail, I'd buy the board to "know" that is covered.. Worst case: you have a nice new updated board to replaced a 25+ year old board.

Anyone have an extra 24 opto switch board available in their parts stash? I’ve been chasing a mist opto issue for so long, and after replacing both opto transmitter and receiver, changing caps on my 24 board, buying a new 10 LED board, I think I’ve nailed it down to this switch board. Let me know if you have an extra lying around that you might be interested in selling!

Anyone have an extra center 3 bank target plastic lying around?
