Hmmm... Sorry. I was actually wanting to see the mist multiball animation on the ColorDMD during gameplay.

Quoted from flynnsbit:I got my ColorDMD installed tonight. It really has some great animations and colors. Here is a sample. » YouTube video
LED installs on it are a must now so I will eventually get to that. I am probably going to go with the pinbulbs setup.
I have two remaining issues, Flipper rebuild kit to fix the weak right flipper and my Mist gate on the right side opens and then closes before the mist ball makes it back in that side.
Looks awesome! Congrats man!
What's the pinbulb setup?
What causes the mist gates to do that?
Quoted from PinballManiac40:Hmmm... Sorry. I was actually wanting to see the mist multiball animation on the ColorDMD during gameplay.
Here ya go.
Quoted from KornFreak28:Wow! That gate sure needs help! I would be very interested in knowing what causes that? Thanks!
Yeah, It only happens about half the time. It's like that coil doesn't have enough power. Once it drops the gate pulsates with the mist motor. Weird issue.
Quoted from flynnsbit:Yeah, It only happens about half the time. It's like that coil doesn't have enough power. Once it drops the gate pulsates with the mist motor. Weird issue.
I hope you can find a solution. I'll do some research on it and I'll let you know if I find one.
I totally love BSD and its theme for being adult, mysterious, nocturnal, misty.. differently from most pinball themes and art, often too childish, commercial, etc. I usually love unlicensed machines, BSD being an exception: the movie by Coppola is amazing, while I usually do not like big Hollywood blockbusters. The movie itself is very alternative, nocturnal, artistic and not a cliche', cartoonish Dracula story for kids (as in the horrible MB).

It's like some old movies in black and white: part of the magic is created by the b&w itself. The narration is more abstract, dreamful, artistic. The problem with the existing coloring technology for the DMD display is that it can only use full, bold colors and not shades of them. IMHO BSD becomes less adult oriented and loose its magic with those childish colors. I can see that they tried using single color here and there, like green only in mist multiball, but it still does not work well in my opinion.
I am not really a purist, I actually dig some mods sometimes: but for the DMD in BSD, sticking with the red stock one.

I've seen this issue before.

Hard to say EXACTLY what the fix was. Ultimately, I did end up putting a new spring in, and that seemed to fix it. It was right before I sold it, so I didn't get to "test drive" the fix for very long. YMMV.

i'm assuming this:
http://pinballbulbs.com/products/bram-stokers-dracula-ultimate-led-lighting-kit
if i bought a BSD with a colordmd, i doubt i would swap it out. i could see myself buying one if i need a new dmd, maybe. not a mod for me (just for fun), but if you want one, buy one. i'm not going to stick my nose up in the air at you. actually, i guess it could be the other way around .
the BSD hype did get me looking into the mod a little bit more than usual. i'll admit, this hi-res color SM vid got me excited:
i've bought speaker kits if i needed a new main cabinet speaker. that's been my most expensive mod to date, i believe.
I finally finished reading through all 78 pages to try and make sure I knew as much as possible about BSD before I dive in on any repairs and mods (besides the ColorDMD). I tried to collect links along the way so that I would have them easily referenced. This is probably not a complete list, I am probably forgetting someone or some company. I will edit where I can if this is helpful for the new owners of BSD's that don't have the time to read through 3912 posts in this thread.

We need some key posts marked in here, like the instructions for installing proto sling plastics and such. This would also be a good key post.
Quoted from KornFreak28:Hi!
Is it difficult to LED this machine? I always just LED a machine from under the PF. Can the same be done with BSD? Do I have to remove the castle or cemetery to install LEDs inside? What about the pop bumpers? Do I have to remove any ramps to install LEDs in them? Thanks!!!
I believe you can do most of it under the playfield, there are some trouble spots, however. There are two bulbs under the left ramp (555s), and you have to remove, at minimum, the wireform and the coffin to redo the pop bumpers.
Possibly other spots, that's just the ones that come right to mind.

It /can/ supposedly, but I haven't experienced any. It may depend on the brightness/color.

That's a bit of a head scratcher isn't? Has anybody here experienced this issue before?
What LEDs are you using? So I get the same. Thanks!

Well, Optos run on IR light, so if the wavelength of the led is close enough, it could interfere. I'm using Cointaker LEDs, but I got them a while ago. I suspect most would be fine. If you do have a problem, you wouldn't have to mess with all of them, just those by the mist Optos.

Updated!
I'm looking for a little help with my BSD. It's currently torn down and I replacing all the plastic posts. I ordered a new kit and included is a clear double star bumper post. Can someone please tell me where this goes? I can't find it in any of the pictures and there wasn't one on there before the tear down.
Secondly, I don't think these plastics are on my game.
http://bayareaamusements.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Store_Code=BAA&Screen=PROD&Product_Code=GS-BSD50
Can someone tell me where these go?
Thanks in advance.
One goes here: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/bram-stokers-dracula-clubmembers-only/page/55#post-2527296
and the other one goes in your shooter ramp.
not sure about that square piece, but the other goes over the beginning of the inner loop, behind the coffin. you need spacers, too, or you'll get ball jams.
my mist ball stopped working after led's. had to remove the beam "shield" in front of the receiver on the left-hand side. that thing that looks like an opto blank.
Quoted from weaverj:my mist ball stopped working after led's. had to remove the beam "shield" in front of the receiver on the left-hand side. that thing that looks like an opto blank.
So did you remove it completely? Because I believe it helps to focus the light beam in order to make it across the playing field.

What leds were you using? Do you have regular bulbs in now?
Quoted from MMP:Thew my spare color dmd into BSD. I was happy to be able to keep the flasher board in place... thought I'd have to modify it. This dmd has lived in several different games now, but think it's found a final resting place.
Did you have to buy the new speaker panel?
Quoted from KornFreak28:Did you have to buy the new speaker panel?
Yeah, that was an added expense. I only have a few games, so it didn't bother me.

One in the shooter ramp should be sticking out toward the launcher.
comet flat-tops. permanently removed the beam guide thingy. led's still installed and mist ball is working 100%.
Quoted from flynnsbit:Here is the mist issue
Check the fliptronics board, see if there is a cap at C2. Some games were shipped without that cap, mine was. Installing that cap fixed the problem for me.
Quoted from KornFreak28:Who makes this awesome blue lights on the slings?
I used the tower 5smd blue Comet bulbs.... work great and you can see great . I usually dont like color in gi but for bsd it works well imo.
Quoted from KornFreak28:That looks awesome! Are all you leds comet? Thanks
The pics suck but you get the idea lol. Yep all Comet bulbs 1smd/2smd color matched for inserts and i used the blue 5 smd tower for lower playfield then gradually went from purple to pink to red 1 and 2 smds frosted.

Very nicely done. Thanks!

Wow!!! Did you order a kit for this? Are the backglass leds whites or colored?

No kits for me i buy bulk from comet and try tons of combinations till i find one that looks great. I can take a pick of backbox bulb colors another day if you want to copy it...

Rob Bell had a pretty good layout for backglass led colors. Did you use the same layout BigD? There's a pic of his layout towards the start of this thread.
Quoted from Luppin:I totally love BSD and its theme for being adult, mysterious, nocturnal, misty.. differently from most pinball themes and art, often too childish, commercial, etc.
I respect the hard work done for the color DMD, and I think it can fit on certain titles. But to be honest on BSD I better prefer the original red single color display: to me it better fits the atmosphere and feeling of the movie and of the theme.
Good post.
I had always heard the movie was kind of a dud along with Branagh's MSF. When DVDs got cheap in the mid 00s I bought MSF and liked it for it's creativity and courage to depart from the established brand of Frankenstein. I never watched BSD though till this past year.
It's a better film in a lot of ways probably because of a better director.
The criticisms are valid with Keanu's performance being a lost opportunity and even Winona's being lackluster but as a whole it's very impressive and may be my favorite Dracula film alongside Lugosi's version. I was delighted to hear they tried to keep from using any computer effects in the film.
Your criticism of the shade of green is interesting. The movie itself uses a very bright, odd color of green and though it does look out of place compared to the rest I tried to mimic that. Even though the color program only allows 16 colors per frame, the whole color spectrum is available to use. My thinking when coloring though is to try to preserve the shapes and lighting hinted at in the monochrome dots and not get carried away with coloring individual dots. I tend to let the existing shading in the original dots provide the depth.
Quoted from dmbjunky:Rob Bell had a pretty good layout for backglass led colors. Did you use the same layout BigD? There's a pic of his layout towards the start of this thread.
Nope just went with what i thought looked the best im sure most people do similar things tho with slight variances here and there....

Your criticism of MBs theme could also provide an interesting conversation. I find MBs theme humorous not childish and a form of parody. A lot of the jokes are inside jokes as well meaning if you know the movies you'll appreciate it more. There's even a reference to BSD in it which I love.
To me it's a bigger crime when you have a game like MSF that should have similiarly moody feel as BSD but fails. The failure imo comes from the choice of sound package. While I understand that TZ made it popular to use pop songs that reference the theme, that is a big negative in creating the atmosphere. Also the way movie quotes and Frankie's grunting are repetitve and wear out their welcome very fast.
BSD used the movie assets very well. Is there any other scary theme that could actually be considered scary? I can think of themes that are supposed to be but fail in atmosphere or the game's not good. What about Freddy? I've never played that.
