Anyone in the Sioux Falls, SD area interested in selling their Dracula?

#902 5 years ago

My next restore is a BSD for myself. I can't wait. Finally one for me. For years, I never cared for the game. I never really gave it a chance until I bought one to flip. I'd play it for an hour each day while waiting for the shipper to show. Fell in love. I think I'm going to pimp this one out with chrome trim and LED's.

#904 5 years ago

This one is for me. That's the best part. I've also got a playfield ready to go. Found one locally. NOS fully populated playfield that never found its way into a game. The guy I bought it from took about 25% of the parts for another BSD. The playfield was cleared by a local body shop buddy and I've got all the coil mechs rebuilt and ready to go.

I wish James would hurry up with the ramps.

#905 5 years ago

Once I'm done with mine, I'll have the original Sun Process playfield for sale along with a bunch of parts.

#906 5 years ago

the flashes I've done (without Letters), if i don't find the original Letters so i will use the Dracula TTF Font for my new decals...

#907 5 years ago

I am looking at one of these. What would one be worth with a good playfield (needs cleaning and shop job) broken middle plastic and one broken sling plastic, but trashed cab. The cab is faded with dings on the sides and the front of the cab has major damage from an operators lock down bar. What would it be worth? Keep in mind I live in Canada and we pay a big premium for pins up here. Thanks.

Edit: A professional pinball advisor up here told me $1600 - $1800, I trust he is correct just seeing what the world thinks

If the cab is that trashed and everything else workse, he's probably about right.

Did my first "shop" of my BSD (strip the PF mostly, clean PF/plastics/inserts, wax PF, replace rubbers, all bulbs to LEDs) and in total it took me about 15 hours. I went very slowly and took lots of pics. Following the invaluable guide:

http://files.spilledilla.com/Diverse/RepairGuides/shop_BSD.pdf

I successfully got it back together and everything worked! One minor hitch with the diverter rod seen in this pic:
BSD.jpg
That ring between the star post and the rod was too tight and stopped the rod from moving. This picture saved me from needing to remove the coffin again since I found this problem after the PF was back together. Using the picture I was able to blindly guide a screwdriver in there and unhook the ring from the metal post below the diverter rod. That eased the pressure enough that the rod could move.

LEDs and cleaned inserts have made a huge difference in lighting. Very cool and so much easier to see the ball drain down the right outlane now!

#913 5 years ago

I ran that rubber on the inside of the last metal post works perfect not like it's gonna melt touching that led lol.Going to have pics up soon just fin shop job and full custom color LEDs.What a project.

#914 5 years ago

Yeah, glad I had switched to LED or I would have worried about it sitting there. Looking forward to seeing your color scheme. I stuck with white on the GI (except blue under the slings) and then did some color matching on the inserts (blue/red/green).

Good luck with the restore! I'd be interested in the clear plastics under the playfield that run along the length of the mist multi-ball mech.

The restore won't start for another month or so. Once I'm into it, I'll post what's for sale.

I asked James 3 days ago and he said they don't have a definite production date, but hopefully by Summer or maybe Fall.

Just to add to my post above, in case anyone else was curious about the ramp decals like I was.... James said they don't do those, and he's not sure if anyone will repro them.

I certainly hope someone makes them, as that would not be much fun trying to resuse/transfer that many old ones!

Hello everyone,

i'm new to the boards here but i'm watching this thread for weeks as i'm a hardcore BSD fan. I recently bought myself a Dracula cabinet in good shape. But i'm stuck with a boring problem that i think causes a lot problems to my game.

The problem: from the moment the machine is on every coil is popping like it's searching for balls. Even when all 4 balls are in place it's keep popping. So when i start a game you always hear some coils popping. Also the hole on the left above the mist multibal does not always recognize when a ball is inside due to this problem i think. Also when i'm playing "video mode" the coils keeps popping so my ball drains away while playing the video mode, so when the video mode is over the games searches for a ball that isn't there... Pretty frustrating.

Now i'm not a specialist when it comes to problems like this.. any help or tips would be welcome.

in this short youtube video you hear the coil in the hole left to the womans face, mostly is just that one that starts it all. ->

But i also replaced all the coils with new ones, still the problem is not solved.

And is it normal when you turn on the table that avery coils is popping ?

#929 5 years ago

Sounds like you possibly have an issue with a trough switch/opto/wire. Have you gone into the diagnostic menu? Do you have a credit dot indicating a problem somewhere?

Just bought one a few days ago from Georgia... it will eventually make its way here.

Then it's... "TEN! Million. TEN! Milli--TEN M-TEN! Million!" for a while

Haven't played it since '93 (when it was new); this one will be a keeper.

Hello friends. I am new to the forum from the other side of the world ... From Spain.
I join the club because I'm a happy owner of this fantastic pinball.
I'm in the process of restoration, I hope to share with you the outcome of my beloved BSD.

Looks good! Does your backbox look that washed out in real life, or is that just the pictures? That's the only place without LEDs on my machine.

Can anyone help me what to do with those error messages..

The castle opto's are the ones on the wireform where the Castle Lock balls sit. All three of them being out sounds like a wiring issue. Make sure they're plugged in. I'm not sure which is the opto TL popper, but that's most likely your rats hole or the return from the mystery hole.

If you don't see a wiring problem, point your cell phone camera at the opto led in the white housing for whatever you can access. If the transmitter is working, you'll be able to see the purple light in your camera.

Just checked the wiring i don't see any problems so far, the opto's are those little bulbs that detects the balls right, one is in a black housing the orher in a white ? I checked all of them with my iPhone camera and i don't see a purple light nowhere in the opto's.

Could all of them be broken ?!..

Could be possible i think because when i play a game he does not recognize a castle lock either.. also when in the opto popper (that's the one on the left where the ball comes when video mode is finished) he does not recognize it..

Guess i'll the pinball shops for opto's..

Yes, the white one is the emitter, and the black one is the receiver. Check the opto in your right mist pocket just to see what I'm talking about. That one you can see without taking anything apart. Sure, it's possible they're all bad, but it seems odd that all three of those Castle lock ones are out.

When I had this problem, the emitter led was loose on the board, so I could just wiggle it around in the housing to make the light go on and off. The replacement wasn't too expensive, but it's nice to know you're replacing the right thing the first time.

I think it means TOP LEFT popper - the one on the left side below the left ramp. I forget if they call it the celler but it is where Renfield says "master you promised me eternal life" when the ball goes in there.

Oh, yes, that's the one I was forgetting. I believe it's called the Asylum.

Great BSD machine. A pinball undervalued and despised by many users. Hours of fun guaranteed with this "different" pinball ...

Congratulations on your purchase!!

So, now onto the next one.

Could someone post a picture of the droptarget switch (long bent metal part of switch too) and how it is aligned on teh drop target? I am missing the switch arm, and have to make a new one and make the skill shot work again!

thanks,

Bob

Quoted from DavidC:

I also installed them last night, and I'm really pleased with the results.

I can understand why some wouldn't like them on their games--they do obscure the inlanes, an undeniable change to gameplay--but I think they really tie the art package together very nicely, providing nice color balance at the bottom of the playfield. I was really surprised at the difference it made.

The fact that they're installed at different heights lends a certain "dimensionality" that's really cool when you're standing in front of the game. It's one of those things best observed in person to fully appreciate.
